You can do this also with about any lens, just focus. I've used my 18-200 before I got the macro just try. It's fun.

these are terrific! I have a macro lens but didn't know you could do this kind of shooting with it. Would you mind sharing your settings on these pix or suggest a website for macro photos? Thanks. Nat

If you are on yahoo groups, just do a search for macro groups. They can be quite helpful. I belong to a lot of groups, and you can post your pictures there also and get feedback on specifics. Really helpful too.

I'm trying to get better at macro/high-speed photography of water drops. I have a long way to go, but like this one. Fill my time anyway :)

I really think you did a fine job; could you share details on the lens, settings and other equipment you used? Awesome pictures!

I took so many pictures to get a few keepers...but used 3 flashes, and am going to set them differently today. The settings were as follows:

Full EXIF Info
Date/Time 15-Oct-2011 13:11:31
Make Nikon
Model NIKON D300
Flash Used No
Focal Length 105 mm
Exposure Time 1/250 sec
Aperture f/8
ISO Equivalent 200
Exposure Bias
White Balance
Metering Mode matrix (5)
JPEG Quality
Exposure Program manual (1)
Focus Distance .47 m

I don't know why it says no to the flash, but it does...maybe because it wasn't the 'in camera' flash.
Hope this helps. You really just have to set it up and play.

This might also help...watch this guys info, and he only uses one flash.

Those are lovely!!! Esp. the first one. I like to shoot macro as well and I do a lot of flowers. I take a spray bottle with me a lot to add a little interest to the flowers by spraying them with water and working with the water drops on the flowers. One day I did a whole bunch of raindrops on top of different colors of cars... They where kinda fun! Share more, they are really nice!
Happy Shooting!

I also love the spray bottles :) And in the sun they sparkle. I would love to get some SOMEDAY with the little reflections of other flowers showing in them....always something to work towards :)

For those of you who are really interested in water drop photography, check out Martin Waugh's work at
www.liquidsculpture.com. He is a master at this and there is an excellent article in the September issue of Rangefinder Magazine.
