Two iconic celebrities. One an actor, the other a comedian/talk show host. Jack Webb put the Los Angeles Police Department on the map, with the TV Drama Dragnet. A B&W TV show. Only the NYPD, was larger than the LAPD. I never saw Jack Webb smile on that TV show. Not once.
Very funny. Intelligent use of alliteration.

I liked it when he smiled at the end!
Very good. First time I've seen Joe Friday since the show was running.
Hilarious! J.C. was the best!
Kinda clean comedy currently.
Back when comedy did not depend on profanity or sexual inuendo to get laughs. They were true comedians and performers.
Great clip. Carson was great--especially compared to what we get today---which I say based soley on the witless commercials I see. I have never watched the shows, so maybe I am wrong but I seriously doubt it.
Carson was timeless and his humor and delivery style still holds up today, not many can say that.
Tks for posting.

Yes he was, and you're welcome. When I see something as good as that, I want others to see it, too!

I still miss Carson! For so many decades of my life I watched his "Tonight" show almost every night.

He was such a quick wit, one of the funniest things I ever witnessed; his monologue was really tanking, before the days of laugh tracks, nobody was laughing at any of the jokes, he delivered one final joke and when nobody reacted he reached up and grabbed the overhead mic, pulled it down and tapped it a few times to make sure it was on, like the whole time the audience didn't hear anything. It was a genius end to the monologue.
