From a Sailer who spent 6 months of their enlistment in a Marine division I can attest to Marines being the "Mens Dept.". I thought I would not survive but did and even to this day have the confidence and bearing of a true leader whatever that means relative to the civilian population. I still find the need to be careful to fit into the polite society I find myself in living in this retirement facility.
A gentleman moving into this place recently started calling me a Marine after only meeting a couple times. Seems he was a helicopter pilot who ferried Marines into and out of battle zones in Vietnam. Said he been around so many he could spot one a mile away.
Felt good to be shown a little respect even after all these years of being spit on when arriving back in the states.
