I ordered two used lenses for my friends from KEH. Both lenses were delivered undamaged. I'll be sticking with KEH, as long as they have what I want. The fault in this, can be MPB or FedEx? I don't like receiving any items in a severely damaged box. But, it happens sometimes. I hope the recipient of that package, gets a full refund on that lens.

MPB has always been very reputable in my dealings with them (items exceed description), if it was cracked they would have listed that in the description. They have a fairly short RMA window, but should respond very quickly. I doubt you will have any issue with them. Since you have contacted them let us know how it turns out.

When I have gotten such pkgs as you describe. I refuse delivery because of possible damage in delivery. I’m always refunded immediately Or a replacement of equal or better Quality.

100% agreed, and especially with anything you know to be fragile. Like, for example, a camera lens.

Yes, it's probably going to be ok - except for when it isn't - so why take the risk?

It's been a while since, but I (a U.S. resident) bought a 20-35mm Canon L lens from MPB (in the UK) which just didn't deliver uniform sharpness across the focal plane. It seemed that perhaps the shipping box took a hit that misadjusted the elements inside the lens. I sent them a picture showing the problem and they immediately gave me a Return Code and authorization to ship it back. Quick, no questions, complete satisfaction. I've trusted them ever since.

I think you've done the right thing in contacting MPB, especially including the pictures. I've done business with them on three different occasions and found them reputable. Truthfully, I've consistently found their buy and sell prices more competitive than anyone else. I recently sold them a Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro and their price beat every one else by a significant (to me) amount. Right now, they are extremely busy on both sides of the ledger especially the group that examines equipment. They normally take 3-5 business days from receipt to evaluate. I'd give them a week then follow-up with another email and then a day or two later, a phone call. By not refusing the package, it'll probably take longer because Fedex is also in the mix. Good luck.

Im going to believe they'll take it back for a refund to you as a reputable dealer. If not if you paid by credit card you can put a hold on it while the credit card company helps resolve the dispute.

BINGO !..........

Yesterday I received a used lens from MPB. It is an AF-S VR 70 to 300 G IF ED. Fed X brought the package, and the box was damaged a little bit in one corner and the tape on the bottom of the box had come half way off. This was allowing some of the contents to hang out of the box. The Fed X driver actually pointed this out to me. He also noted that box was damaged, in his delivery notes. When I opened the box with the lens in it and took it out, I saw that the clear window over the distance scale was cracked. The crack ran all the way across the window, length wise. This was a lens that was listed as like new, no damage. My question is this, how big a deal is it. I am worried about the window falling off at some point. I am worried that it might allow moisture to get into lens. What do all you Hoggers think , is it a big deal or not ? Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

With the high volume that the shippers are handling during the holidays they are strained to get enough help. Result is they have many people working for them that really don't want to work or at least are not used to working. These once couch potatoes don't catch very well so when a regular throws them a package they often drop it. Send it back and let the store and shipper fight it out.

Return it for full refund or replace it one of same condition if they have another one. Very reputable company.

You bought a new undamaged lens and you are legally entitled to a new undamaged lens. It is most likely that it was not sold FOB (Free On Board), therefore it is MPB's responsibility because it does not become your property until you agree it is in good condition and accept it. You need to immediately contact both MPB and Fed-X and send them photographs of the damage to legally establish that you do NOT accept it.

Although MPB is probably responsible they are not if the condition of sales statement indicated that the order was FOB. If the lens was sold FOB, it becomes your property when it is transferred from MPB to the shipping company. In such a case the claim would be against the shipping company, Fed-X or the insurance company. Fed-X however, could defend themselves claiming that MPD did not properly package it. In such a case, you might want to go after both companies and let them fight it out. The bottom line is that if the company you buy a product from specifies FOB in their terms, always demand that it be insured. If it is not an FOB purchase, it is the seller's responsibility.

The lens was probably dropped by an original owner! No telling what other damage it might have. I would return it ASAP.

I have had nothing but great experiences with MPB. If they rated this item as “like new” then it really was like new!

Call them, tell them what happened in detail, send them an image of the crack, and ask when can you return it. If the hit was hard enough to crack the window, how much internal damage was done. RETURN IT.

You will need a RMA (Return Material Authorization) before sending it in.

I would like to thank everybody that responded to my question. I very much appreciate your suggestions. I am still waiting for a response from Fed X at this time. I heard from MPB, and they said to report it to Fed X, and they would also respond to them, if needed. We will see where it all goes. Once again, thank you.

You're just accepting a runaround. The seller was responsible for delivering the lens as sold. It's not your job to deal with their shipper. Call MPB back and get a return authorization and then return it.

I am not done with this by any means. I will give FedX a chance to respond, and see what they have to say. If I am not happy with that. I will go back to MPB. Somebody is going to fix this problem ! The more I deal with it, the madder I get!
