other than saving about 2# weight, what other advantages does this lens offer over the 200-500 f5.6 Nikon Zoom? 2# weight savings is nice, but at about $1350 per lb. it's a lot of $$.

Weather sealing and better IQ.

I used to shoot Canon. The 500 PF replaced my 7lb 500 F4. It's sharper than the 200-500 zoom. I also have the 80-400 which some say is sharper than the 200-500 and that I find a great range below the 500.

The focus problems are usually with birds in flight. The Nikon rep said that at F8, the peripheral focus points don't follow and the center needs to be on the subject.

Please look at my previous post showing the sharpness of this lens posting the image of the green heron.
I have owned both and I can tell you that the 500 5.6 is a BARGAIN at it's price.
But, if you are a casual photographer and your satisfied with good sharp images, then you are going to really like the 200-500 (a real nice lens for the price, and it is now on sale). I have used it and I get really great images with it.
If your a crazed birder like me, then you will really appreciate the 500 5.6.
Again, either lens will deliver. If you have the funds for the higher priced lens and can handle the wait, then elect to go for the 500 5.6.
I like to hand hold and pan with birds in flight, the 500 5.6 is really much easier to use. And yes, the 2 pounds in weight savings is worth the price difference, IMHO.

Two pounds is a lot when it's hanging from your neck. I own two tenor saxophones. One weighs about two pounds more than the other. I can tell you from experience that those two pounds make a big difference to me.
