What the traditions that you especially enjoy at the Holidays? How do they relate to your parents and childhood?

The most important thing about Christmas is receiving expensive gifts, right?

Selecting and trimming the tree together was an eagerly-anticipated family tradition. To this day I refuse to "go artificial" preferring to suffer with shedding needles just so I can smell the Balsam when I walk into the room as I did in my childhood. I just wish they still sold tinsel as to me, a trimmed tree still looks bare without it.

I saw tinsel at the Family Dollar Store last weekend. I turned to another shopper in shock and said I hadn't seen this in years. She agreed. I hope you can find a nearby Family Dollar Store. I found some on Amazon.com :Premium Icicle Tinsel Garland for Christmas Trees - 2000 Old-Fashioned Shiny Mylar Strands - Each Strand 18 Inch Long - Kid & Pet Safe (Lead-Free) - Hang with Ornaments & Xmas Decor (Silver)

Tinsel used to be metal foil strips about 1/4 inch wide and a foot or so long. What's this Mylar stuff

When I was a kid we decorated with the tinsel. When the tree came down the old man made us save the tinsel to use the next year. What a PITA that was.

For my family, the "it" holiday was Thanksgiving as it was the only holiday we spent the entire day at our home. So when I go home for the holidays it is always Thanksgiving.

Since moving to Florida the sweetie and I have started our own new tradition. We spend Christmas with either Carnival or Norwegian. This year it's Norwegian.

Using my now somewhat rusty Naval Intelligence photo interpretation skills, the ship photo appears to be a Royal Caribbean vessel, not Carnival or Norwegian. Enjoy your cruise!

It's getting "card" from some one you haven't been in touch with all year. They thought of you and of course you send a card to them.
These 'cards" touch my heart !!

Your skills are not all that rusty. Last year neither Carnival or Norwegian covered the dates we prefer, so yes, the boat pictured is the RC Navigator of the Seas.

You made my day with your validation of my skills. I will contact my former CO and tell him that his old "Chief" still gots it. Thank you and again, enjoy your Christmas cruise.

Wife and I say the ADVENT PRAYER 15 times each day. We have for years.

It is piously believed that whoever recites this Advent prayer 15 times a day from the feast of Saint Andrew (November 30) until Christmas will obtain whatever is asked.

Imprimatur - Michael Augustine, Archbishop, New York, February 6, 1897.

If you buy tinsel from today's stores, it ain't the same!!! Somehow it's flimsier and a tad too lightweight. Just my opinion.
