I have had good luck by spraying WD-40 over a tissue laid upon the tag, etc intended to be removed. Even the toughest ones come off, if you are patient.

WD is the cure for all I’ll try it for sure thanks

be careful when scratching the labels to remove, the silver "optical" layer is very easily damaged

You’re right I’ve done that. Thanks

I have used a hair dryer and start peeling back from one edge, make sure you heat that sucker up well before peeling.

(1) I would get a razor blade scraper. It's a metal gadget that holds a one-sided razor blade that can be retracted for safety. You can find them at hardware stores, maybe in the paint department. Yes, it will scratch up your disk. The scratches will be on the side you aren't using for the data so they won't hurt anything.

(2) the wd40 suggestion is good. Any oil will loosen adhesives. Even vegetable oil. Whatever you have in the kitchen (although I would avoid using oil infused with garlic or hot peppers). You have to give it time for the oil to soak through the paper label. The only problem with this approach is that it's difficult to use if the label is plastic.

Thanks my works cut out for me

I agree with reburning if these are important. If you decide to try with chemicals, try on the 1 that you wouldn't mind loosing least or reburn that 1 before you try. Make sure your in a well vented area if your using a lot of chemical.

Good luck, Tom

Thank you very much

Over the years I have created many slideshows for family members. I dressed them up with disk labels. Now I’ve discovered that with the new optical drives the paper disk covers do not spin in the drive properly.
Does anyone know how to carefully remove these paper covers?

I noticed the same thing happened to music I burned on CD's.
For your movies I would suggest just burning them onto thumb drives. they are cheap and very few laptops or desk models come with DVD drives.
Plus if they have smart TV's they can just plug them into the USB port on the back of the TV and the quality is better. Win/Win.

Scraping with a razor blade will indeed scratch the surface of the DVD. This is not harmless. Contrary to your statement, the data layer is just below the top of the disk. Any scratches will likely render the disk unreadable or at least damage some of the data.

I bet you could soak them in water with a couple of drops of dish detergent. Test this on a disk you don't care about. I'm sure it won't wash the data off the disk.

That's what propane does. A little leak and your RV goes kaboom next time you light a joint!

HA HA HA!

Don't try to fix these disks!!!!
Any attempt to remove the label and the glue underneath will ruin the plastic (polycarbonate)! Once the disk is warped, it is useless and may even jam in the disk reader. If you can transfer the images onto a new disk that would be better. Besides, a stack of fresh disks is significantly cheaper than a bottle of solvent if any kind.

Years ago, I bought a DISK TITLE PRINTER. I still use it to get professional looking results. The drawback is it is slightly more expensive than a Brother P-Touch machine. and the ribbons are expensive. I never have any worries now. Except, my wife yells at me for making 'another' disk. I also use USB drives as well for transferring photographs.

Happy Shooting!

If votes matter I toss mine in for COPY/DUPLICATE. Discs are cheap and easily damaged. One microscopic pinhole and a disc is unreadable by normal methods.

Hot water on the other side heats the glue to the loosening point, too.

At least your labels stuck. The system I had, they'd peel right off so I just use a sharpie to label my Burned CDs and DVDs.

With optical media, the data is on the side of the disk with the label on it... could damage the disks by removing the label.
