My qualifications would be wireless, laser light, scroll wheel, things most mice today should have. Also, I'd want it to use 2 AA batteries. That way they last a long time, and if you use rechargeable's, some lower end chargers will not charge just one battery. Lastly I would not worry a lick about ergonomics. Your hand will get used to just about anything in a day or so.

The best option I have seen is, getting the cheese off the trap without getting caught.

I have only had 2 mice in my entire pc life and both have been Logitech. The first one was wired (tangled mess) and the one I'm using now is wireless. Just changed the battery in my recent one about 5 minutes ago. Can't complain about this one, and no tangled wires from keyboard or mouse.

Some mice (and trackballs) have a micro USB port which will charge an internal battery. Plug it in overnight once a month or so.

I too use the wireless Logitech. It has a roller ball and fits my hand comfortable. I've had others and my hand would cramp bad. Then discovered the large Logitech one. Love it.

I like the Logitech M510 wireless mouse. It's wireless, the batteries seem to last forever, and it works very well for a good price.

I have 2. When working I use a smaller mouse. When using LightRoom I change to a larger mouse it seems to help when Im moving and clicking a lot.
I've found using the smaller mouse with LightRoom my hand seems to stress more.

This the one I use Dell WM527 meets your spec's but uses 2 AAA batteries, only had to change them once after 9 months. I use it with my XPS 8930, my Dell Inspiron laptop by way of Bluetooth

I use a Logitech G602- switched from a trackball due to arthritis. Nothing fancy, Comfortable and adjustable speed so I can really slow it down for high res work with a couple of clicks, then back to normal when that’s not needed

I used to use optical mice but hated the loss of real estate on my desk top so I switched to track balls but they would die fairly quickly. Finally, once I retired and did the 100% switch to Apple I found their Magic Pad to be as close to ideal for cursor control as current tech seems to get. I'm waiting for either true optical control (where you look is where the cursor goes if you double blink) or better, mind control, via a skull cap like in Arthur Clark's novel "3001".
