Looking for a new all-in-one printer

I have posted this in the printer/printing section and also posting it her to get a larger audience.

Due to OS incompatibilities we are looking for a new all-in-one printer/scanner/copier. We currently have an Epson Artisan 837 that fits our needs. However from what I can determine it likely will not function if and when I upgrade our Macs to Catalina. My wife will only consider all-in-ones so recommendations for other types are not to be considered. Also we do very little photo printing. After a recent camera club presentation a speaker from Red River Paper suggested the Epson XP-8500 which is a six color unit like our current printer.

The question is: Can you recommend an all-in-one and/or are you familiar with the XP-8500.

Thank you in advance.

Bill

I've had a Canon MX-920 for a year or two and like it.
But that model has probably been superseded....

I never liked throwing out a tri-color ink cartridge when one color ran out.

Hp are ink hogs. We have a 5500 series and it sucks up the ink and there is no way to adjust to say draft levels of ink to reduce usage.

We've been using a Brother MFC, surprisingly good photo prints and reasonable on the ink cost, Bob.
BTW 3 color and 1 B&W ink tank.

My tolerance for HP and their ink consumption expired some time ago. They almost give the printer away and then have their way with you when you need ink - over and over and over.
I currently use a Brother (MFC J985 DW). I am satisfied with both input and output. However, it is not touted as a great photo printer.

I will never buy a printer that has the print heads built in. When the heads go bad pitch the printer. I have several older printers that the ink and print head are one. They never die and produce great prints.

My wife and I each have an HP Office Jet Pro 8720. Both very happy. My second one. First one lasted 8 years. They cost right around $300.

All in one may or may not give you the photo print quality you want.

We had several H/P's and none lasted as long as our current Epson that is around 6 years old.

True, the quality of the all-in-one doesn't match a dedicated photo printer, but the Epson we currently have meets our needs.

Years ago when my HP mono laser printer was wearing out I went looking for a new printer. After having several HP printers over the years my primary consideration for a new printer was "anything but a Hewlett-Packard".

Currently I have a Xerox All-in-One color laser printer for everyday use and a Canon Pro 100 for prints. I got the Xerox printer at Costco for about $150, down from $400.
