I used Power Point in my previous life for a number of years and in my opinion it is very powerful program, but a bit clunky for loading up a folder of photos for viewing your latest work. A finesse show with sound and all is PowerPoint's place to shine.

I use a Mac and I was frustrated beyond belief trying to use Photos to make slide shows. One would have thought it should have been easy with a software called 'Photos', but I digress. I called Apple, and believe it or not, they said the best way to do it is with iMovie. I tried it and found it not only very easy, but the results were great, it was easy to add music, etc. It has been a while since I used it, but you can Google how to do it with iMovie. If you have a Mac, it's also free.

iMovie's main strengths are simplicity and universality. You can use text, graphics, JPEGs, video, audio... in any combination. It's at version 10.1.13... I've used it since Version 1.0. It's been completely rewritten a couple of times, and keeps getting better and better. I used iMovie from 2000 until a couple of years ago to do all sorts of training presentations, slide shows, lifetime retrospectives, eulogies, short films (48 Hour Film Project), and more.

If you like Ken Burns' documentaries where he pans across and zooms into still photos, you should like iMovie. It isn't Final Cut Pro X, but the price is right! It comes with every Mac, just like Garage Band (multitrack audio editing), Keynote (better than PowerPoint for some things), Numbers (not Excel, but usable), Pages (more intuitive than MS Word), Photos (a good front end for Affinity Photo), Preview (Image viewer, PDF editor/maker, and lightweight parametric image adjuster), Image Capture (scanner interface and good tool to copy files from iPhones and SD cards), and several other fundamental applications.

Photodex the maker of ProShow Gold and Producer have virtually been out of business for over a year !!!, no answers to phone calls and no correspondence.I still use Producer but the performance is iffy-thing is there
is no software that I have found that has a tenth of the features that Producer has.

Been using ProShow for years (about 7 years) and very happy with it. Prior to that, tried about 3 different slideshow/movie software but results were "crappy." Started with Gold and after a couple of years upgraded to Producer with more features. I use it mainly to put family photos into slideshow/movie for quick viewing with additional captions, special effects, etc.; the added advantage of making copies for family members/friends and keep for posterity. Occasionally, I will create a slideshow/movie on a topic of interest and post to YouTube. I do this not only as a hobby but also to improve my creativity and sharpen what is left of my brain neurons.

It's a great product and a shame to just dump it to the garbage bin. My opinion is, someone will take over the product and try different approach in promoting, developing, etc. Personally, will continue to use what I have as it serves the purpose. I plan to hang to it as long it's usable.

I've been following this thread for a couple days. In the third post I wrote that ProShow would be the popular winner and any video editor could make slideshows. Yesterday, I went to the Seattle Art Museum to look at some really old Italian paintings. There were educational/informative slideshows running on flat panel screens. They were good.

(Turned out that the best part of the trip was the display of a Seattle area high school photography contest. Sponsored annually by Kenmore Camera and Canon, the work was thrilling. It was displayed in a basement hallway!)

All of the slideshows used nothing more than simple fade transitions. The photography itself carried the show and message.

Could it be that software like ProShow with all of their tricky, cute transitions and effects just don't cut it anymore? Has the demand for DVDs full of gizmo transitions disappeared? Have the newer, TVs with USB ports built in, replaced low res DVDs?

With 4K TVs now common, has anyone tried producing slideshows in 4K?

I discovered a surprise (to me). My favorite video editor reads RAW files directly!

Shoot RAW. Turn on the Lightroom Classic option for sidecar files. Do your usual work in the "develop" module. Using Adobe's video editor, Premiere Elements, set up a 4K video project.

Add the RAW files directly to the project. Premiere Elements reads the sidecar along with the RAW file and puts it on the timeline with all the adjustments intact.

Proceed with the project editing and add transitions, sound, etc and output a 4K video. Put the 4K video slideshow on a USB stick and plug it into a 4K TV USB port. Use the TV's remote for control.

As far as I can see, Photodex is not discontinuing anything except their online slide show building service.

WOW! Awesome show. Great narration delivered by such cool, soothing voice. Puts Morgan Freeman to shame.

According recent posts from Proshow Enthuasiasts forum many users migrated to PTE AV Studio 10. It's a 64-bit app with possibility to mix still images and video clips and create photo and video slideshows in executable format (EXE) or in HD or 4K video files. This product offers very good editor animations, built-in slide styles and transitions, audio editor with multiple audio tracks. Simple user interface. Fixed one time payment.

Thanks Sunnely . (I am just now noticing your comment.) I will pass along your compliment to the narrator.
