Excellent shot! I have a pair that nests in the woods behind my house every year and they bring their baby to the suet feeders. The male sticks around all year. Not sure if the female is here or not but the male is always at the suet. He has also discovered my peanut feeder. He hasn't caused any damage but various other woodpeckers have drilled holes in the wood part of my house. Really love your photo!
I live in Oregon and have a river running through my backyard. We mostly have Pileated, flickers, Hairy and downy woodpeckers. I love hearing those noisy pileated. They always announce their arrival when they stop by. I've been lucky with my house not getting drilled to much by them. Some of my neighbors have sustained some major damage by them and have installed some flashy spinning reflectors trying to keep them away. The flickers seem to be the worst, especially during the mating season.

Thank you, aschweik.
I have seen the female but that was before we got snow. Now, I just see the male. I'm hoping I can find where he is nesting. Maybe get lucky when babies abound.

Very nice photos! Quite a compilation.
When I'm outside, I hear my pileated caw just before he comes flying out of the woods directly to my suet feeder. I hope to get some photos of him as he flies overhead.
Great catch!
I have only seen a couple over the years, but only for a few seconds.
Who doesn't like pileated woodpeckers. There's a family of them living in the woods where my home away from home is located in Lancaster county PA. You can hear them hammering away at the trees and occasionally one shows up on my site. Beautiful animals. By the way, nice photo.

Great series, I really like the flicker. Next time check the "Show Original" box so we can see them better.

I can see you're not familiar with pileated woodpeckers!
You take your shot whenever it's available.
Ever heard of Photoshop? Did you think I meant pick him up and place him on a tree? I would have taken the shot wherever he was too, just do something with it is my plea.
