Nikon is reeling financially. Even talk about cutting R&D.
They are not in a position to make less .. to gain down the road.
They may be running out of road. At least the road they are used to being on.
Give them a break.
Nikon is NOT cutting R&D, in fact, just the opposite is true. After a particular bad year about 2 years ago, they have invested a lot in R&D hiring young aggressive engineers.
You should really stay up on this stuff.
And, they ARE doing really well, you still can't get the Nikon 500 5.6, if you remember when the D850 came out folks couldn't get that one for about a year because of strong sales. And sales are still exceeding earning expectations, including the D500.
And they are offering deals on Black Friday, matching the one's they offered last year, or better. A great deal on the 3000 series camera's, half price with two lenses is a great deal.
And, they will be offering a NEW 120-300mm 2.8 along with the D6 in the spring. Those young engineers will be cranking out new exciting products over the next couple of years. Stay tuned for the re emergence of a great brand.

Not necessarily, if you have been watching the ad's, they have been reducing items for about a month, now on many bodies, they are throwing in a free vertical grip. (on D850)
So it appears, if you have been paying attention (try a second cup of coffee) that Nikon does give quite a bit on Black Friday. Maybe your still napping. WAKE UP before the sale ends.
Had my coffee. The 70-200 f2.8e has been at the same price point for months although it sometimes goes back up. When the price fluctuates it's interesting how all vendors seem to sync up ... instantly.

Vendors can only charge what Nikon allows. Nikon authorized dealers have weeks notice that a price on a piece of equipment will change. So the vendor can then sync up with Nikon.
And yes, if I already did not own that lens, I would buy it now, it has never been priced better. I use it wide open and love the results.
Nikon has plenty of deals, but they’re geared to entry level equipment. They already gave us hooked so they need to hook newer photographers.

Nikon usually puts select items on Black Friday Sales. The D3500 and D5600 bundle kits with two lenses are a bargain. And before Black Friday, you could get a refurbished D7500 for $599. You can also get a Nikon FX 85mm f1.8G for $426, a $50 reduction. A new FX 50mm f1.8G for $180. And a new SB-700 flash unit for $296. Nikon is not doing any worse than its competitors for Black Friday Sales.
Is the FX 50mm f1.8g the lens I would want for shooting portraits with a blurred background using a Nikon D3400?
They have many deals being offered currently. I'm not sure if they are specifically"Black Friday" deals but there are some serious discounts being offered. Example: Nikon D750 w/ 24x120MM, f/4 lens for $1,499.95 - a stated discount of $1,300. There's a bevy of equipment on sale now.
No, but B&H did and does.

Check your favorite retailer for current price. Nikon sets the prices except for grey market and used.

In all honesty...I carry a Sony 24.3 A77 with an 18-250 lens...so I don't really even look at what Nikon offers!

Not every company is enthused about Black Friday sales - REI for example, deliberately didn't even open.
Huge backlash in other parts of the world at the moment.
Perhaps I'm just becoming too much like the Grinch - I tend to see these things as just another step of the almost total destruction of anything resembling what Christmas and the season was supposedto be about - just another step in converting it to a sea of commercialization, persuading people to spend money they don't really have to buy things they don't need.

For the record I think you are absolutely right. I don't leave the house on Black Friday - haven't for several years. Don't do any online shopping during that period, either. Am I missing out? Maybe, but I'm not buying stuff I don't need with money I don't have.
