Nikon has several items on sale. I see the D750 you can get for $1000 regularly it is $1600 or $1700.

Yes a shrinking market is the reality of the high performance camera market today. All high performance camera manufacturers are in that market.
It would seem today’s market cannot support all the companies who are competing. Nikon seems to be doing what companies need to do to survive.
Perhaps your crystal ball is less foggy than mine because I cannot see who will win this competition. Given that, you would be wise to invest your spare $ in who you think will be the winners.
Good luck.

I hear you. Here's the difference with Nikon. Something I thought I would never see.
Nikon is losing market SHARE in a shrinking market. Not the same thing as everyone is in a shrinking market.
Sony is in the same shrinking market ... but ... they are GAINING market share.
Nikon is lined up to not make a profit for the first time in its history.
They are in good company however, as it seems Olympus is also not weathering the storm either.
But I never thought I'd see Nikon caught completely flat-footed.
Nikon is losing market share of that shrinking market.

Yes. Sony has gained market share. Fuji also entered the camera market. That means somebody has to lose market share. The problem is exacerbated by shrinking market. Canikon gave up market share to Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and Fuji because Canikon waited too long to develop mirrorless cameras.Canikon are playing catch up now. This is the result.

Nikon even said that sales of their Z series cameras didn’t meet projections. We’ll see if adding native lenses and adding a crop sensor to the lineup helps. I love my Nikon DSLRs but I also love my G9 and if I was going full frame at this point is probably lean towards Panasonic.
