As a learning Photographer, have you learned "Back Button Focus"?
I find it an excellent tool to use.

Because you were really happy to get the feedback you got! You listened and learned! We all learn all the time. Asking for advice is (IMO) truly the mark of someone who has a deep desire to learn. Welcome to the Hog, Joanna. I have seen a couple other posts from you and believe you are heading in the right direction. As others have said, there are many here who will provide guidance, advice and humor. Some may even provide a little irritation but just take that in stride. This is a great place to learn and socialize.
I too am more or less self taught, having started back almost 50 years ago, and I'm still learning. Don't ever stop learning about photography and everything else.
