You did a wonderful job of showing a number of options when living in or visiting Venice. Bev

I sure hope Venice recovers from this last flood. Having been there, it is a beautiful city as you know. Thanks for sharing your images. Very nice.

For many years I hesitated booking a vacation to Venice because I heard it was a dirty place. Went to Italy on a tour and Venice was part of the itinerary. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw how clean it really is and I quickly fell in love with everything Venice. So sad it got flooded. Hope it all works out.....but l don’t know, I think that with global warming Venice still has some bad days ahead. On a funny note, a friend on a gondola shot an image of the gondola driver using his cell phone while guiding the boat. Typical in this day and age.

Without a doubt, the most enchanting time to experience Venice is at dawn as the city slowly awakens and before the cruise ship hoards clog the narrow streets. Shops are restocked, door steps are swept and... the dead are brought out.

These were taken last November, just a couple of days before last years devastating floods. The city was submerged in hip deep water again last week. Venice has been experiencing these 'aqua alta' for decades if not centuries, but it is difficult to see how it can survive the worsening situation. Resilience only lasts so long.

If Venice is on your bucket list, you better move it up the list before this gem is washed away or sinks beneath the feet of all of the tourists - it won't be there forever.

Comments and feedback appreciated. Feel free to post your memories or dreams of Venice.

Very nice set Phil; it brings back fond memories. My memory of Venice was 3 wonderful days there in the summer of 1973 with my wife of two years. We're going back in June and really looking forward to it. We will be part of the "cruise ship hoards," but we'll be a small hoard, as we are embarking on Viking with only 928 others. We'll have an afternoon, overnight and the next day until we sail at 1800. One thing that surprised me was how enjoyable it was to walk around the city.
