When doing an art nude shoot take the opportunity to grab portrait shots but make sure you explain to the model how you are framing the shot so as she can work her magic.. I.E. this model automatically dropped her head to the side then stared straight through the lens …

You know I love your work but have never been a fan of "landscape" shots of "portraits", especially when they cut the head off.

Beautiful capture. One of the best B&W I have seen in this thread. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Stardust

I have a series of several images all presented this way …. We would always have different opinions regarding Landscape portraits with cropped heads... I like the way it can increase emotion by concentrating on the eyes more... But in all.. that is only my personal opinion... There is no rule to say you cant do it, only our own opinion and that will vary person to person.... A few years ago I had an image in The Image of the Year final(Viewbug)The comp works on entries from finals throughout the year then going head to head in a peoples vote ...then a judge selects the finalists from the 186,000 entries.... from an original 26,000,000 entries through the year... that did quite well called "The Power"... It was featured a few times on their opening homepage so my advice would be to experiment with crops to get more emotion for little to no effort in pocessing... I personally didn't feel that these 2 images were strong enough with the top of the heads on hence the crops....

Regards
Joe

Lovely images and very arresting eyes. I love it when I see stuff the sort of "breaks" some of the traditional "rules" about composition!

Regarding the additional images, I say again... What are they thinking? What is going through their minds? The shots are mesmerizing.

Thanks again John

The image of Peter started off as an accident in the studio to be honest.. He leaned forwards in between two model lamps giving me a bit of stick for leaving the lens cap on (embarrassed)... The light hit his face and I had to replicate it … which took over 20 minutes to build 1 light at a time 4 in total..... Called it "The Power" and it did amazing on the international comps scene... Had it exhibited several times from Singapore airport to the Berlin White Gallery, Nottingham Robin Hood Exhibition even New York....

Regards
Joe
