Bob,
I mostly agree except that I have bought (ebay) some Nikon marked, packaged, etc. batteries which did not hold their capacity nearly as well as the batteries that came with the camera bodies(4 so far). Can't find signs of counterfeiting in any of these cases (EN-EL 14).

I have 4 spare OEM batteries for my FZ1000, plus a couple of Wasabi's as spare spares. Also carry 3 OEM batteries for my travel partner's FZ300 (nice they use the same batteries).

When you're traveling for a couple of months, to places you won't be back to, the last thing I want is battery problems. At Chinese security checks, I feel like a clown car as they check EVERY battery, pulling them out of their canvas covers. But they do it with a smile, unlike TSA.

What I HIGHLY recommend is a Green Extreme Dual Smart Charger with LCD screen with the sleds for BLC-12's. Bought from Adorama.

You can buy additional sleds for different batteries (e.g I have for my backup Nikon and Olympus TG-4 batteries). After a day's shooting, nice to be able to charge 2 batteries at once. And with a mid-night pit stop, easy to pull out the charged batteries and load any more that need charging. I never mix battery types.

Earlier this year there were counterfeit batteries being sold by B&H that somehow got into the supply chain. I haven't fond an explanation on how it happened.

A lot of things are still like a lot of other things.
"Normal" batteries last maybe 3 years. Many times longer, but in diminishing capacity.
My brand new Nikon battery was made 5 years previously- and held a usable charge for an hour.
My Kastars were made maybe 6 months ago. My cheapies are better than OEM! (not really)
Maybe get a multimeter, and check your charger, and the charged batteries for voltage.
Some chargers are just a transformer and a diode, or use a 555 chip to chop the voltage. Works, but ...

As far as counterfeit batteries- these things are just like a lot of other things.
This is LA. Like lot of other places. Counterfeit/ bootleg/ blackmarket items pop up constantly.
So far since summer, we've had counterfeit Oreos. Counterfeit vaccines. Somebody mixed pork in the hamburger. Somebody added cows milk to nut milk. "Organic" tomatoes were bought from a reseller; news crew followed him to a wholesaler, and he just reboxed some of the nicer ones. And always, somehow, we need to be on the lookout for fake pharmaceuticals and diluted bios.

There's always somebody trying to get away with something. The better the opportunity, the better the odds of it happening. Somebody will determine that he deserves to be accustomed to a better lifestyle than his own efforts can afford. Hmm. What do you got? And after they "win" a few times, they can get a bit indignant when they get found out. You're not qualified to catch me! It's was just business!

I had a d5300 that went dark. Nikon said it was the generic battery (wasabi). The repair was the same as a refurbished d5500. Nikon wrong or right, I will never put anything but Nikon batteries in my D3s, 810 or 500. Don't cheap out on batteries

I"m sorry you had a bad experience, but it occurs to me your bad experience might have been with Nikon service.

But if it was indeed the battery, there are thousands of us out there that have had nothing but good experiences with aftermarket batteries. And if you choose to keep your D3s, as I have done with my D3, you should order a battery to keep as a spare. They're getting scarce.

Just received my new FZ1000 and need to get a couple of spare batteries. The OEM’s price knocked me over and I have read mixed (but mostly positive) reviews on the equivalent Wasabi batteries for much less $$.

Anyone here using them in their FZ’s and have any plus or minus thoughts?

My Sony battery seems to work as well as my Wasabi battery. Haven't noticed any difference so far.
