I have mobility issues although, I push myself daily and am up to most of a mile a day. I do have to use a cane. Due to health issues, I can't drive right now and, I don't have a vehicle.
We do have a municipal park, but it is more of a picnic spot and really isn't scenic.

My Dr. Has told me that most likely I'll be able to drive by Summer of 2020. While I'm happy about that, I hate car shopping. I'm not complaining, mind you, I just miss using my camera. I do thank God for the blessings I do have. Now, I just need to find a local Church that is like the one that I went to as a youngster. I think it's gonna be hard to find.

Anyway, I apologize for rambling on.

Bob

You are just make for the iPhone. A friend has been showing me some of the new apps. Be creative and you may come up with some new viewpoints that work well when you get a realer camera in hand and places to go.
I used to document things around my house/how I lived - with Polaroids. I still enjoy the album I created.

Hi Bob. That first assertion is certainly not true. It is rather hard for me to get around as well. Lately it hurts too much to try walking so I use a wheelchair. Since my wife's car was totaled (no injury) back on July 3, 2019 and so now she uses my car to get to work, I have no wheels most of the time. We both went out to the desert October 15 and photographed that UP 4014 steam engine chug by. I posted pix in the Train Section of the UHH. I sometimes shoot from an open car door while parked. Also as was suggested, I do table top close-up and macro photography at home from a chair! If nothing else find friends to talk with and get a pet. I also keep busy being with my dogs, and listening to music a lot.

A simple and fun idea is to just put up a bird feeder. The will come at all times of the day and you don't need to go too far to see them. You can have a window mounted one way mirror feeder where you can see, and photograph the birds, but they can't see you. Lots of options. You can make it just as simple as a couple of branches with peanut butter and seeds on it, so it looks natural. Good luck.

When I was laid up with knee replacements and back issues, I had to find alternative subjects. My bird feeders kept me entertained for hours.

Bob,
What do you remember about the church when you were young.
There are lots of choices. I know. My wife was (is) a pastor.
I have been limited to the house in order to be a full time care giver. I live on a hill over the river so I get some telephoto opportunities to explore, that and macro.

Hey Bob, Glad you reached out. How about photographing birds? Put a feeder or 2 out. You'll probably get squirrels too. Anyway, one day at a time and keep moving forward. God Bless, Rick

If it helps, you are not the only one.
No magic pills, diets, or names will change this. Hang in there and take advantage of all opportunities to use your camera and all the activities you enjoy.

Bob, I do understand. I am fortunate enough to live in an area that many photographers would find a dream come true. My wife is unfortunately moving more and more into needing constant care and that severely limits my opportunities to get out into drop dead beautiful areas for landscape, wildlife and astrophotography. What keeps me pushing forward is two fold: one is taking every opportunity to do whatever photography I can, the other is spending time honing my skills in processing whatever I get to photograph. This may not fit where you are but it has been a profitable approach for me. I do wish you the best and please do not give up on photography, it is such a wonderful way to expand personal horizons and to find self satisfaction and meaning. (PS: I rarely get to go beyond 30 miles from home so don't give up on your possibilities.)

There are tons of "Stuff" to photo around you. Just take time to look!!! And...it is the time of year that we "ALL GET DEPRESSED". You'll get over it.

Here is something that I found on the Net. years ago. I just took it into PS and added a few things. I think you can use it. Thanks, Boone.

Potential photos are everywhere. You just need to recognize them, and that does take some practice. After seeing this scene out my front window for several, it finally hit me that it might make for an interesting composition. Try going to a window on each side of your house, and see what catches your eye.
Look up, down, and side to side. Try it with just your eye and then by looking through/at the camera in color and B&W. Start shooting. You'll learn from the good ones and the bad ones. Best of luck! >Alan

As a photography teacher I usually had an assignment shooting your own backyard (or inside home, etc) Some of the best student work came from that assignment, and it forces you to really look at things. After a rainy night I just did the same thing in my yard yesterday.

I second this kind of excersize. It's amazing what you can shoot from your front door or a window. It will also get you to think about things you didn;t even see before you looked for them. A tree in different seasons. Leaves on the ground. Sunsets, sunrises, clouds, fog, shadows. A million things that you can imagine. Neighbors walking by,or walking dogs. Cars in motion blur. just look with a new vision. Most of all, NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER!!

Quit, is not in my vocabulary. I raised my 3 kids that way also.

You are, absolutely right. It was just temporary melancholy, that led to this post.

A couple of options: Visit the park anyway. Both pretty women and older faces with character will show up at least occasionally; put a bird feeder some where with an at least partially hidden access. Both of above require patience, but will allow you to exercise some creativity. In all cases, avoid posing.
