I saw a post this morning from NJFrank that I like quite a bit. Link below. After viewing I went for my morning lesson over on YouTube. Up pops a lesson on Duotones by PiXimperfect. Realized I never used this part of photoshop before. I decided to try along with a picture I shot last week of Ashlie. First I changed the background then used PiXimperfect's technique. Not too hard to follow if you understand layers. My posted picture might be a Love it or Hate it. Not sure how many people like duotones.

Jim that is really NICE! Great result.
One caveat, lately in every portrait I see of a woman, they have a very stern almost angry or aggressive look. It seems Ashlie is out of step. She's smiling! (Thank the Lord!)
If this is a Black and Red duotone it is indeed excellent in all respects. In fact, it's amazing to think that there are only two colors used in this pic. I used to do this in my offset printing days of the past. Thanks for showing this.
This if 90% Red & Black Duotone, could have been 100%. I let the original RGB teeth and eyes come back at about 50% and about 10% for the brown hair. This gave it more clarity and life.
You and I are on the same page when it comes to offset printing back in the days of printing 90% Black and white and some 2 color work. Later on in the 80's working with a lot more 4 color work with 4 color presses.

Wanda - Bill - and Bill, Thanks so much. As mentioned above this was totally new to me and thought others would like to give it a try. The first half of the video is easy and fast. The last half is optional and adds another dimension if willing to take the time. I'll need to go back to the video several times before it will totally sink in. I saved the link for future reference.
This is a very good image! The only thing I would comment on is the shadows on her left side are a bit deep. I'm not familiar with the Duotone process. I'll have to try this when I can find a pretty lady to pose for me! Stan
I have to disagree a bit with your comment Stan. If the shadow on her left side was lightened she wouldn't look correct in the setting. The background is quite dark fitting with the dark side of her face. Having said that I appreciate your thoughts. All comments are always welcome and considered. Jim
