Thank you all who chimed in on the dilema, much appreciated!

I will look into the suggestion, as to time each slide for display time is not viable as I put as many 60 to 80 slides on a DVD. So the setting I am looking for is a (global) one, if that is the right word.
I have used and also bought Filmora program and same issue was present. Seems as the simplicity has gone trough the window in those programs in favour to look sophisticated and rich on features.

With Pro Show you can apply a global display time to all slides in the presentation. They have tutorials that show you how to do that.

If you're using Windows, IrfanView (freeware) has a slide show. You can save the slide show as an .exe file, but you have to have the IrfanView app on the same disk as the slide show .exe. I don't know if it would work when plugged into a Mac. The time between slides is a global variable.

I use DVD Pro - you can select time for each slide + various zooms and many other bells and whistles.

If you look closely at the post that showed the transitions on your software you might note that it says those settings are applied to all slides.

Not advising about any particular editing software but it may be worth mentioning the standard way of timing captions is to allow screen time for the caption to be read three times when reading at normal speed. Thus the viewer that has not seen it previously will have time to read it. It may be that your audience might benefit from a (very) slightly longer time.
If your editing programme has more than a single video track (and to be much use it must! ) put the captions on a separate layer. Then you can adjust the length of time and start/finish of each caption as required.

Its a rather chilly day here in cloudy BC -10 that is, and I thought it I will stay inside and post this and seek advice from knowledgeable crowd on here.

Here is a site that tells where to look for the slide duration time

The information is at the bottom of the section about adding photos
