Use B&H or Adorama. they have great service and you will have the full manufacturer's warranty.

Looking at purchasing a Nikon Z7 with Nikon F4 24-70 lens. Have quote from Abe's of Maine, seems to have best price. As part of the purchase they offer a number of add-on warranty options for 3-5 years, starting at $299 for 3 year extended warranty, up to 5 year "DOP Accidental Damage Warranty" for $699. I'm pretty careful with my camera gear, have never sent something back for repair. Still using my NikonD7000, time to upgrade. Is this something you would recommend? Thoughts on the value of these warranties? Experience with Abe's of Maine?
Thanks,
Wayne

Best price isn't always the best way..... without going all in, this seller receives some pretty bad press in this arena (and have for a long time). Nikon controls the quality & price of all legitimate USA targeted imports (they have a pretty strict supply process and seller base), so you won't see much price difference from the major players, grey market they have no control over, nor will they service. Adorama, B&H, Cameta, are good bets, as well as Hunt's, Samy's, Best Buy, Costco... Walmart and Amazon, a lot of theirs come from 3rd party sellers, so make sure you have Prime, or CC protections, and check out who is actually shipping it to you - if you do have an issue, you don't want or need any BS from half baked suppliers.

If you’re an amateur, check out your home owner insurance provider for a personal property policy for all your camera gear. I have State Farm covering mine - no depreciation, no deductible, replacement for loss at purchase price, repair if less than 80% of purchase price. Very reasonable price.

Stay away from Abe's of Maine no matter what price they offer. There are numerous posts on UHH about them. Check the posts out then go to Adorama or B&H. I'm sure others will comment.

I agree 100%. Furthermore, if you buy from a Nikon factory authorized dealer such as Adorama or B&H there is no need for an addon warranty. Nikon covers your camera for a year after purchase. If an electronic device lasts for three months without failure, the chance of premature failure is extremely low. Since the Z cameras are completely electronic with no mechanical components, the chance of failure is even lower. Rather than wasting your money on an extended warranty, I recommend that you talk to your insurance agent about adding an all risk camera floater to your homeowners or renters insurance policy. The premium is very low and usually provides all the protection you need.

The original question was about the extra-cost extended warranty. The great majority of consumers will come out ahead by banking the cost of each extended warranty offer and then using those funds to cover repairs as needed. This applies to everything, not just photo gear. They wouldn't offer those warranties if they weren't making plenty off them.

Cameta is a first class outfit too. If you buy refurb from them they up 3 month Nikon warranty to a year.

Extended warranties always a rip off.

Many of you don't realize that extended warranties, from camera stores, Best Buy, Office Depot, etc. are a major profit center for the retailer.

What's that tell you?

Also, remember that almost all these services are NOT consecutive.
Did you go thru eBay when you bought from KEH, and then bought a 3rd party contract?
After eBay runs out, then the remainder of KEH, then the 3rd party continues.
If you bought a 1 yr service contract, you still only have a 1 yr service contract.
