As others have stated, stay away from Abe's Of Maine. (They aren't even located in Maine). The camera they are selling is grey market. It has no Nikon, USA warranty. Should you be unlucky enough to require service it is unlikely that Nikon will even touch it. Abe's may offer a warranty, but, given their reputation, its value is questionable. Repairs would not be done by Nikon and, since Nikon does not sell parts to unauthorized dealers, you would have to wonder just what repair parts were used.
The lowest price, as far as cameras and lenses are concerned, is rarely the best deal. The manufacturers set the price that their authorized dealers can sell a camera or lens for. A lower price is almost always grey market. Not necessarily a bad thing, but, you need to be very careful about the dealer.

I remember when Abes of Maine was in Brooklyn NY. Why would anyone not buy from BH with payboo and not pay sales tax plus free shipping. Abes of Maine was a scam then and still is today.

As I previously stated, I'm not recommending anyone buy anything from Abe's of Maine. But, as I previously stated, I did buy a body from them a few years ago, a Canon 5DSr. It was just before Christmas the year the 5DSr was introduced. It came in a Canon box, not a white box like many grey market items. I had no problem registering the body with Canon and I've never had any problems at all with this camera. The warranty is now expired and I really don't care. I own over a dozen Canon DSLR'S and I've never had a problem with them. I take care of them and they take care of me.
To be honest, I'll never purchase another camera from Abe's of Maine because I have no reason to.
Also, my Nikon bodies were purchased from the local Nikon dealer who is a short drive from my home. I purchased them there because they were in stock and it's good to support local businesses.

Abe's Of Maine is not currently listed as either a Canon or Nikon authorized dealer, and so far as I know, they haven't been in recent memory, if ever. I have heard of non-authorized dealers occasionally selling Canon USA products, but, I have no idea how they get them since they are not part of the normal distribution system. Regardless, just as companies like B&H, Adorama, KEH, and so forth have developed sales practices to earn their sterling reputations, Abe's has developed a far less impressive reputation through their practices.

I'm sorry to be so abrupt to two of the more recent posters who were not telling you to RUN from Abe's of Maine....but what part of not being a Nikon Authorized Dealer don't you understand? Common sense then comes into play. Or maybe you would like to buy stock in the Brooklyn Bridge.

I wouldn't buy from Abe's of Maine and I wouldn't buy extended warranty.

This may just be an insurance policy. If you cover your equipment with an adequate photographer-specific policy, it's a waste of money. Besides, Abe's of Maine is NOT where you'd want to buy a camera. They have a sketchy past, and aren't even authorized to sell Nikon equipment.

Stick to B&H, Adorama, Samy's, Unique Photo, Hunt's (in New England) etc. These guys are all reputable. Abe's is not.

Right on as usual

I'm fortunate enough to have two camera stores within a half-hour's drive, so don't have to rely on mail order.
As to extended warranty, I always ask how much, then decline. Next step is to deposit the $-amount of the extended warranty into my savings account. When my desktop packed it in a couple of years ago, I had the money to buy a new one right away. Ditto for a kitchen scale.
So, I've simply become my own insurer and it has worked very well for me.

I've never bought an extended warranty, and I never will. If they weren't money-makers for the companies, they wouldn't exist. I know several people who tried to use them and were denied because of the fine print - just like any insurance policy. I've had SLRs since the 1970s, and I've never had a need to have one repaired.

I also never buy extended warranties, except one time. About 6 yr ago we bought a new Whirlpool washer and dryer from Lowes. My wife felt we should get the extended warranties, so we did. Two weeks before the 5 yr extended warranty expired the dryer died. The motor control board had failed. Lowes had a service tech at our door within 1-2 days. Should have been a simple component replacement, except that the board wasn't in stock and wouldn't be for about 6 weeks. So, Lowes refunded us the full original purchase price, including sales tax, which we used to order a new one. I was amazed that they refunded the full price with absolutely no debate. In about 3 days Lowes delivered the new one and removed the old one, and, yes, the new one has the extended warranty. That's the only time we have ever bought extended warranties, or ever plan to, but I'm glad we did. Saved us over $1000.

Looking at purchasing a Nikon Z7 with Nikon F4 24-70 lens. Have quote from Abe's of Maine, seems to have best price. As part of the purchase they offer a number of add-on warranty options for 3-5 years, starting at $299 for 3 year extended warranty, up to 5 year "DOP Accidental Damage Warranty" for $699. I'm pretty careful with my camera gear, have never sent something back for repair. Still using my NikonD7000, time to upgrade. Is this something you would recommend? Thoughts on the value of these warranties? Experience with Abe's of Maine?
Thanks,
Wayne

I would take that $699, add it to the $299, and now I would have a total of $998 for my next bout of GAS.
Extended warranties are for the losers. (that should start some feedback)

I guess that consensus is in on Abe's of Maine and well expressed. Ditto on Squaretrade; theirs is a good service.
