Nice presentation. I was at the museum in Whitefish Bay a couple of years ago. The bell from the ship had only been there for a short time. Quite a moving story and presentation. Thanks.

Thanks for viewing, ottopj. Glad you liked it.

The Memorial Bell of the Edmund Fitzgerald was recovered on July 4, 1995. It is now on display at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish Point, MI. (Photo #1)

A replica of the original bell was created with the names of the 29 sailors etched on it. It was placed back with the wreck of the ship 530 feet below Lake Superior. (Photo # 2)

Well done, Sunnely, great presentation.

Thank you, Earnest Botello. Glad you liked the show.

Correct me if I'm wrong, were you originally from one of the Great Lake states? Perhaps, WI or MI?

I was working in the Duluth/Superior area in November 1975 when the mini hurricane came thru the area. Now l know what a hurricane feels like with the water being blown from the wind and rain. Never want to live thru this again.

Thanks for your comment, bnsf.

As part of preparing the slideshow, we visited the Duluth/Superior area early this month. Never been there before. Crossed the bridge between Superior (WI) and Duluth (MN). Quite impressed with these towns especially Duluth. Got a tour of the town including the UMD campus (University of Minnesota, Duluth).

The other reason we visited this area was hoping to be lucky and see display of the Northern Lights and may be take some pictures. I've been seeing posts of the Aurora Borealis appearing in the Duluth area on the Great Lakes Northern Lights website. Unfortunately, it was cloudy or raining during our visit and didn't get to see one. There was a sunny day and got to see the Split Rock Lighthouse in Two Harbors, MN. (See photo).

There is a connection between Two Harbors, MN and the Edmund Fitzgerald. Almost 3 hours after Edmund Fitzgerald left Superior, WI on November 9, 1975, she "met up" with the Arthur M. Anderson somewhere in Lake Superior. The Fitz was bound for Zug Island near Detroit. Arthur M. Anderson, also loaded with iron core, originally left from Two Harbors, MN bound for Gary, Indiana.

Arthur M. Anderson would become Fitzgerald's "seeing-eye dog" before she went down. About 3 hours before the Fitz sank, she lost both radars but was able to communicate with the Anderson via radio for directional guidance. (In short, the Fitz was sailing blind.) The Anderson stayed about 10 miles behind and continued to track the Fitz on the radar and communicate via radio until her 'blimp" disappeared from the radar. The last message received by the Anderson from the Fitz was, "We are holding our own" at 7:00 p.m. on November 10, 1975. The Fitz went down at 7:15 pm. Anderson went back to search for the Fitz where she supposedly sunk looking for her and any survivors. None found. And, as they say, the rest is history.

Thank you for posting - I know Gordon Lightfoot’s song well.

Btw, my father-in-law served on the original USS Henley, DD391, in WW2 in the pacific (and on the USS Lamson, DD367). I have a copy of the logs.

Thank you, TriX.

I thank your father-in-law for his service and defense of our freedom.

Ditto. Because of the song, the world will remember the crew of the "Edmund Fitzgerald" whenever and wherever it is played. Thank you for your efforts and for sharing.

Thanks, 2Dragons.

About the song: Gordon Lightfoot drew his inspiration from Newsweek's article on the event, "The Cruelest Month", which it published in its November 24, 1975, issue. Lightfoot considers this song to be his finest work.

Wow. Loved the history you just presented. very moving.

Thank you, B_meyer5.55NY. Glad you liked it.

These ordinary but decent and hardworking men deserve to be remembered. It's the least one can do.

Some were young but most were family men who braved an angry storm to earn a living so that they could put food and hot meal on the table for their loved ones.

Thanks, DickC.

I did some revision to the video and posted it a couple days ago. For example, I incorrectly posted the wrong picture of the Master (Skipper) of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Capt. Ernest McSorley, and changed to the right one. I also added a few more captioned info. Please check it out. Thanks. Here's the link:
