In a couple of weeks (Nov. 10), we commemorate the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald ("Big Fitz") and the loss of its 29 sailors, Lake Superior. As a way of paying tribute, I created a slideshow featuring some of the events leading to that fateful ending, which the exact cause remains a mystery to this day. Gordon Lightfoot's ballad and lyrics aptly describes that fateful night. Please join me in remembering these brave men. Thanks for watching.

Well done. I remember the tragedy like it was yesterday as well as Gordon Lightfoot's song being released. I was the same age as one of the young deckhands. Such a loss of life. May they rest in peace.

Fantastic presentation, beautifully designed to commemorate a terrible tragedy.
Do I detect the use of Proshow Software (Producer?) in the making of this show?

Great video and I hate to be a party pooper but did you get the rights to use the song in the video?

Nice presentation. I was at the museum in Whitefish Bay a couple of years ago. The bell from the ship had only been there for a short time. Quite a moving story and presentation. Thanks.

Very well done. One of my customers at Batteries Plus in Ohio was a cousin of Captain McSorley's. The family still grieves the loss of so much life.

Very well done and a fitting tribute to those men of the sea! While serving in the Coast Guard on Cutters assigned to Ocean Stations we rode out two Hurricanes in the mid-Atlantic with waves in the 50 ft range and I still remember how harrowing that can be. Thank goodness we had a well trained crew and experienced captain!

The Great Lakes are truly inland seas. The word "lake" doesn't do the might of these bodies of water justice.

That was a very touching tribute to the crew.

I was assigned to an old Sumner Class destroyer at one time, USS Henley, DD762. We took Cape Hatteras in a storm one time, and even on the bridge, I was scared to death. Some of the crew members had just finished a N. Atlantic operation, and those seas caused a lot of damage to the exposed topside of the ship. I can only imagine what happened to Edmund Fitzgerald.

I live in a port city (Savannah Georgia) and one can see the huge container ships going up or down the Savannah River and the tower that holds the living quarters and the bridge always makes the ship look so top heavy.

I never knew the Great Lakes could be like oceans when there is a storm until the Lightfoot song came out.
