I have never seen balloons used, we used to attach a playing card on the fork so it would rub the spokes to make the sound. If you had a really big engine, you could use one on each side.
Very cool! I used playing cards and balloons. Neither of them lasted very long. I remember if you rolled your bike backwards the balloons would pop! Thanks for the memory!
I have similar memories. As a young boy, I spent 200 years on my bike! Mark
I suspect many - we seem to be an "older" crowd. I stole this from a Facebook post. I thought it might jog some enjoyable memories. It did for me. Mark
Oh, yes. I had one. The bike was broken and rusting in my back yard until a few years ago. I gave it to someone who claimed they wanted to rebuild it. I wished them luck.
Sorry, Steven. You are way too young. WWII was a current event for me.
I guess you're right. I would hit you with my cane if I can remember where I left it. Oh there it is. It's on the floor. Forget it, I'm not picking it up. My back still smarts from trying to tie my slip on loafers. LOL!

We used to build our own bikes because we couldn't afford new ones! We used to use lollipop sticks that made a fantastic sound when the spokes hit them and you got faster and faster. Thanks for the memories!
You 'lit' up my morning. Not sure I ever had one but sure went thru a lot of balloons. It was really cool if you had those plastic strips hanging from the ends of your handlebars.
