Sure. With a 25mm lens the background was disproportionately smaller than the foreground, so I noted the DOF on the lens scale and switched to a 58mm lens. The scene looked normal on the focusing screen and, even though I had to back up for the same field of view, depth of field was the same. No mystery to it.
