Well, it's not like we haven't heard it before.
Going over 35mph is dangerous, and your brain can't handle going over 60mph.
35mm film isn't good enough for good prints, and not big enough for big prints.
You don't need more than 640k in your PC.
And now this.
My 6, 8, 10, 14, 16 and now 24mp cameras were "pinnacles" of engineering. For a year or so.
We were told 720p was good enough, 1080 was fine, and 4k wasn't worth buying. Until those movies ...
My d3200 and d7100 looks good on 4x6s, 5x7s, and 8x10s. And my 27" monitor.
I haven't yet tried any on my 55" 4k TCL, tho.
But an 83mp? I was still lusting after the K1 and it;s pixel shifting!
Now there are 4k, 5k and 8k large screens. Women are spending more money and time on things like Sephora products and training, just because cellphone cams are getting so much better. Selfies!

I could see it now.
Inflicting myself upon my lesser progeny, and theirs, unto their third generation.
As was done unto me by my ancestors.
I'd wifi to my relative's 65" Sony 5k screen, and utter those dark and deadly phrases of sheer horror ...
"And here we are on our summer vacation. *click* Look at her! *click* Can you see the *click*"...

I can see your point, but sometimes the components of a technological advance do not progress at the same rate. I'm thinking of the great and rapid advances in audio technology in the 60s and 70s and beyond, only to be crippled by the media that supplied the sound, tape and vinyl. I don't want to get into any arguments about the merits of vinyl. In MY opinion, the audio hardware had been waiting at least a decade for digital media to take advantage of it.

I don't see lens technology advancing as quickly as the electronics in our cameras. There are some really fine lenses, but they're not light years ahead of the lenses of a decade ago. The advances are incremental. I believe that we will need to see a more rapid change at affordable prices in order to really take advantage of the cameras of the future, even the near future.
