I don’t have much experience with using tripods other than taking family group shots. My tripods are light weight that I used on my old Sony a6000.
I want to start taking more close ups of forest flora, moving water, etc.
my maximum weight, of camera and lens would be a Canon 80D, with Canon EFs 18- 200 mm lens, I think about 21 oz.
I obviously want something sturdy, but not too heavy to carry in a backpack.
Have difficulty kneeling and getting up so need one that does extend to at least 60 inches.
The other thing I don’t know is what head works best for my needs; pan and tilt or ball.
Would like to keep the price less than $150.
Thanks

When looking for a quality tripod, you will need to compromise on one of 3 things. Build quality/sturdiness, weight and price. Usually the compromise will be in price, since quality and weight will be with you for the life of the tripod.

If you have knee issues, as do I, you might want to consider a walking stick monopod.

If weight is not a big problem this Vanguard tripod, which includes a nice ball head, is tall, very sturdy and priced right. I own it and I love it. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/745960-REG/Vanguard_ALTA_PRO_263AB_100_Alta_Pro_263AB_100.html

I use a Sirui and a heavy duty Gitzo. The weight if the 5 series Gitzo is an issue for me. It’s a brilliant product that can’t be faulted, apart from the price but ...... The Sirui Is very good so perhaps stick with them.
I have been told that it’s the twist from wind on a long lens that the heavy duty tripods protect against. If you are not using very long lens then the choices become easier and they are also easier on the pocket.
Good luck.

Get a good stout tripod that will handle twice the weight of your equip. Then you can use it as a support to help you get up.

Nest NT-6324CT CF Tripod $299.00

Nest NT-6324CTM Carbon Fiber tripod .

Lightweight, compact carbon fiber tripod for travel or backpacking. This 44# load rated tripod folds to only 19" long and weighs only 4 1/4 pounds.

It adds a removable leg section which, when coupled with the center column, makes for a very nice monopod, very quickly.

Retractable spiked feet assure a stable platform for your camera gear. This tripod is quite compatible with any head from a simple ball head all the way up to a Gimbal head for that long wildlife lens.

From Camera Cottage MT Shooter on our board https://www.cameracottage.com/apps/webstore/

I have this tripod and love it.

For New, and in your price range, I would recommend Manfrotto. Here is what is available in your price range. This is just an example, there are many, many more Manfrotto combo's to choose from.

Just remember this, with tripods, you get what you pay for.
The best value in tripods can be found in the Benro and Induro lines of tripod's.
