What's going on? On my Canon T3 it was simple... connect cable from camera to computer and execute Canon EOS utility. It would d/l images not already d/l'd to designated folder. Now with my new 77D I tried (for the first time) to do same and..... nothing happened!! Must have tried a dozen time. What's up ??

a) did you download and install the latest version of the EOS utility?

b) did you try your operating system and navigate to the camera using the OS explorer when the camera is turned on and connected?

c) do you need to reboot your computer?

d) do you have a card slot and can pop the card out of the camera and insert directly to the computer?

Do what CHG CANON said however you don't need to download. Use a card reader and you don't need any software and generally never have problem.

Thanks for your quick reply. I did NOT install latest version of EOS utility. It doesn't seem like it should be necessary. I don't even understand your b reply. I did not reboot. I will try that and see what happens. I do have a card slot, and have sometimes used it, but I prefer the cable option (it, in theory, is simpler). Anyway, after reboot, will see what happens.

An EOS T3 was released in 2011. An EOS 77D was released in 2017. The EOS Utility is updated with each new camera. Expecting the software from 2011 to access your 2017 released camera is unrealistic. The proper next-step is to download and install the latest software version.

So I guess I am unrealistic. Not the first time I was told that. Not sure how to go about this. I will probably try to Google my way thru it.

You may have a problem with the canon photo professional depending on version. Every canon camera uses canon raw but they are all different and the software will not open the picture depending on the version and the camera you are using

Get a card reader. If you are using a laptop, a lot of laptops have built in card readers.

Use the card reader in your computer if it has one. Otherwise get a card reader accessory. Use your computer's file managing software to copy the photos.

E) Check the menu. The USB connection has two settings. ‘Pict Bridge’ and ‘Point to Point’. Translated, that’s ‘direct to PICT Bridge-capable printer’ and ‘to function as a drive volume on a computer’. Choose the second option.

As others suggest, use a card reader. Get one that is compatible with the fastest port on your computer. Use USB-3 or USB-C if possible.

Do you have a friend or relative who you can ask to help you download the latest software?

I had an old copy, got an 80D, found I HAD to update. The newer version distinguishes between old & new bodies with totally different settings.

There is a theory that says; digging around for a cable, inserting the cable in the camera, inserting the cable in the computer and then downloading images is simpler than inserting the card in the computer then downloading the images?

I am not at all familiar with that theory.
