Capitol Reef is such an underrated park. The rock colors and shapes are so unique. Unfortunately it was cloudy the day I was there but the next morning on the way out had good light. The park is lightly visited because it's out of the way, which is just the way I like it. I definitely need to come back and spend at least three days here. The 1st two pics are from the Navajo Knobs Trail and the 2nd two are from the next morning on the drive out.

if you have a high clearance vehicle, but sure and take the cathedral valley trail. Very scenic and absolutely amazing on a no moon night. Watch out for pygmy rattlesnakes.

Also don't miss the cohab canyon trail that leaves across from the campground.

Excellent set! You are so right about Capitol Reef. During your next visit go to Sunset Point https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-562264-1.html

Nice photos--that looks like a place I need to see in person.

Going there in just over a week’s time. I’m assuming that there are pet-friendly motels close by as we are taking one of our dogs with us. Any recommendations?

remember - it's a national park so no dogs on trails. try austin's chuckwagon for accomodations. i'm not sure about pets, though.

Thanks! But I thought that some parts of Crater Lake were accessible with a dog? We have little choice but to take Brandy. Plus, Jeannie suffers from early stage Parkinson’s so no great expeditions in store.

Pretty much every park has 1 or 2 trails that are dog friendly, but usually not the good ones. If i remember correctly the trail from the campground to the visitor center allows dogs. Call the park and they'll be happy to provide that info. also ask what ranger programs (if any) are still ongoing. they might still have some night sky programs available in the campground amphitheater. have a cinnamon roll for me at the Gifford House.
