It is beautiful. The yellow flower really stands out against the lovely, subtle complementary color of the water. The leaves are a very pleasant shape. Psychologically, we like water, and the "rising" yellow flower represents hope for many. You put us up close, a unique surprise view.
Well worth your efforts.
Thank you Bob! I shot several of them from different perspectives but I liked this one the best. I am also shocked it came out as sharp as it did. I was shooting in aperture priority and I didn't think to check the shutter speed which was as 1/30. I was shooting hand held and I my hands are not the steadiest for that speed. Anything under 1/80 I usually use a tripod.

Good eye, and nice composition. You will have this image long after those water lilies are gone.
Thanks Frank! I am really trying to improve and this one feels like I might actually be getting somewhere.

It's quite lovely. Every element points toward the "hero," the bud that stands so proudly. really nice.
Thank you so much. I was hoping it was more than just good snapshot. I like when my viewers feel something or find a story when they look at my photos, good or bad.

I really enjoyed this image Keni. Most of the water lilies I've seen are floating with just the green leave. I love the little yellow bud and like that the lilies are raised out of the water somewhat. Thanks for the interesting view. Bev
Thanks Bev! There were some open ones but they were too far away for me to shoot. Next year I will definitely go earlier in the summer before they start dying off and the water level drops.

Beautiful capture, but what does an old man from San Antonio know?
Thanks Mike and I have seen quite a few compliments on your stuff recently. I think you do great for an X Texan.

You are never an "ex" Texan when you were born there, Keni.
I don't know if I've seen one of your unprocessed (for lack of a better term) photos before. Great composition, perfect subject. The perspective shows you can get lower to the ground than I can.

Thank you Jack. Getting down is not the problem.
This is a great photo. Completely different than most water lily photos one sees. Perhaps that is why you like it so much!
Keni - very nice photo, really well done.
I hope you don't mind if I make a small correction re the species.
That is a lotus (not a water lily). While some water lilies have emergent flowers (meaning they rise above the water) their leaves almost never do. Lotus flowers are always emergent and their leaves are frequently emergent as well, as in your photo.

But the real clue is the seed pod in the background, that is a dead give-away to that being a lotus.
Water lilies don't produce seed pods like that.
You often see lotus seed pods in floral arrangements...

Irene thank you very much for the correction. I had no idea. Interesting how a Lotus flower ended up almost covering a small lake in the middle of nowhere Texas.
There used to be a long running British TV programme called The Last of the Summer Wine in which a group of old men acted in very childish ways.
Your shot made me think of this TV production, the new "childish" flowers and the real age shown by the old leafs.
Thanks for re-igniting old memories for me.
Like the shot a lot.
