Tough looking guy Rob!!

I think I like the shot because of the unusual angle (straight on), his girth, laying down makes him look really big, and his eyes give him a predator look. Nothing to fool with. I was asked how close I was. I was around 15 feet using a 70-200, in a golf cart with one foot on the accelerator.

I thought one big difference between Alligators and Crocodiles was that Alligators are less aggressive to Humans. Not willing to try and prove it, but I'm sure I picked that up on a programme about Crocodillia.

I'll let someone else check out that theory. I wanted to get the shot and get the hell out!

Remember the story! They run in a straight line, and if you zig-zag he increases his chance of getting you.

All I can tell you is if I ever get bitten, I know what part of my body will take the hit!!

Nice photo, but too close for me.

As I mentioned earlier, I was about 15 ft, a 70-200 lens, in a golf cart with one foot on the accelerator.

Yes, I was a bit nervous being that close but I was in a golf cart with one foot on the accelerator. I

I have lived for many years here in South Florida and I am used to see these creatures often during winter time. In summer I do not see them that often and I do not play golf.

Alligators in the Everglades National Park are used to humans. Do not interfere with their activities and they will not interfere with yours. In the park the rangers warn visitors not to come closer than 15 feet because as wild animals that they are their behaviour is unpredictable. We do not have many alligators attacking people here in Florida but it is wise not to get closer. They are pretty fast!

I remember in once occasion fishing in Flamingo, at the Florida lower tip, that I encounter a crocodile. He was looking at me and I was looking at him. Instead of panicking I used my brain and asked myself what does he want? I backed up a few steps and he crossed a small brook leading to the other side from where he was originally standing. It was then obvious to me that he wanted to cross the brook but was feeling as if I was interrupting what he wanted to do. A simple reasoning solved that issue.

Around April they have their babies and prior to that the eggs are hatching. Both are very dangerous times to be close to a mamma alligator. I have seen a female alligator with her babies once but I kept my distance.
If I have an advise for anyone not familiar with these animals as wildlife animals that they are I would say keep your distance and do not do anything they could interpret as harmful to them.

Excellent points on all fronts. We have a number of them around the course. This is one of the larger ones. While I was about 15 ft away with a 70-200 lens (shot at about 105), I was in a golf cart with one foot on th accelerator. Was taking as few a chances as I could. I've seen females near the bank protecting a ball thinking it was an egg. Stay away for sure. Thanks for checking it out.

Do you think he'd be upset at my alligator leather wallet?
