Ok....officially going crazy!!! I’ve been trying this last night & all day today with no luck!
I’m trying to resize a photo to print an 8x10. Shot with full frame camera, aspect ratio is 3:2. If I try to print 8x10 it crops photo so I’m losing body parts :-(
Thank you in advance for any direction, suggestions.

You must re-size using some sort of post-processing program. Usually there is one that comes with your camera or, is available to download, free, online. There are also free Windows programs that will do the same thing. I'm not an Apple user but I suspect they have the same programs. You could post the picture on UHH and some nice person would probably re-size it for you in a jiffy.

Thanks for your reply...I have LR and ON1 and have been trying to resize in both of these, but with no success. I would like to learn how to do it, as I've had the problem before and undoubtedly will have to attempt it again in the future.

What you are talking about is changing the proportions of a photo, not resizing in the general sense. Without extreme and usually distorting measures, you will need to crop parts of the image or print in original 2 X 3, 6 X 9, etc. Been there, done that!

So, in other words, print 6x9 vs 8x10? :-(

8x12 will print the full image, no missing parts 8x12 is readily available at places like Costco, Walgreen's etc.

Read this topic for future and/or if you must print 8x10 (using your own printer?):

Depending on the printer, you can set to print the "9" the longest dimension of the paper you are using. The "6" will come out proportionate, and you'll need to crop off the white. Sorry! Maybe someone is better informed / more experienced.

Edit: I defer if my info is incorrect - just my own experience!

If you check this thread you will see the best minds trying to solve this seemingly simple problem.

It's simple math: 8x10 = 4x5 = .80. 8x12 = 2x3 = .667, which is the ratio you want.

If you also have access to Photoshop you have choices. Probably also some options for Lightroom but I can't tell you how. In Photoshop you can check content aware when you crop and it will try to fill up the empty space for you, or you can fill the empty space yourself with cloned content from the background. Another option is content aware scaling, Which lets you protect the subject but stretch the background to fill the frame. https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/content-aware-scaling.html

You can't make a rectangular peg fit into a square hole which has a side dimension that is equal to the short side of the rectangular peg. You either have to use a much bigger square to accommodate the long dimension of the rectangle and have a lot of empty space above and below the long sides, or you have to cut the rectangle so that the long dimension equals the short side (making it a square).

There is no magic to this -

On the other hand, if your post processing skills are strong and you have an image that lends itself to this - you can extend the image so that it works with a 4x5 aspect, and use a combination of content aware fill and clone stamping to add "stuff" to the extended areas.

Or you can opt to print to 8x12 and get a mat and frame that uses the same aspect.

Or you can "stretch" the image to fit - which will make it look pretty weird.

I still must be doing something wrong....even when I try to align it to print an 8x12 size, it is too close to edges and will cut a small amount of photo on both sides. :-(

I’ve been trying to read all the links everyone has sent, but I’m brain dead at this point! May have to give it s rest till tomorrow.

The aspect ratio of 3:2 prints out to a 8X12 photo, (assuming you are printing exactly what you see in the viewfinder) so, you would have to crop off both ends to get to an 8X10.
If you only want to print exactly what you see in the viewfinder to an 8X10, you must change your aspect ratio to 5:4.

Your print sub menu will have options to fit, fill, fit to frame ect. check those, you most likely have the wrong setting.
