Next week Nikon will announce its new pro DSLR D6!
I think DSLR's still has shelf life simply by superior autofocus comparatively but I've read Sony's A9 is close to matching performance. It's just a matter of time before mirrorless is the mainstay. All the big manufacturers are now focusing on mirrorless production. Lenses still need to be produced before there's a major switch in consumer purchasing.

That sounds amazing. The Nikon D6 looks and sounds like a great workhorse. It's nice to know that the DSLRs still have a tremendous foot hold in the camera market wars.
Even though I use a Canon 5D Mark IV, the new Nikon is one to watch.

Just told someone to hold off buying a D5, because a replacement should be due soon.

Good, the prices of used D5 and D4s will come down. Very good news.
Guess they decided they needed some press coverage since Canon and Sony have recently released new product and all Nikon has is rumors about the D6.
Maybe the mirrorless approach at this point is just to capture 25 FPS and end up with 12 keepers like a top DSLR...😳😎

Maybe just shoot video instead...

Exciting...not surprising though Nikon has a pattern of a new single digit DSLR release before an Olympic year....of course they will run out of single digits eventually
I'm really waiting to see the much rumored D760 - supposedly a 35mm version of the D500 at 24mp....
And also better Zx series mirrorless...along with better quality Z mount lenses (physically - not cheapy plastic feeling - optically they are ok).
The Angry Photographer has heard that Nikon has stockpiled 61 mp sensors perhaps maybe for their next Zx series? And an APSC version of the Z series perhaps too...all before the holiday season? Well at least 2020 should be an interesting year...
My camera already does that and you can pull 8mp stills. Not a feature I have used though...

My little Panasonic point and shoot does in camera focus stacking using 4k. The user get to decide which parts of the frame they want in focus before outputting the image.
