UHH member SueScott often travels to Scotland and has shared several of her images with us, inspiring me to go myself. What was unexpected by me was that, in Scotland, I would see nearly as many ancient castles on a bus trip around Scotland this month as I had seen on a cruise up the Rhine in Germany back in June.
As this is not a subject that we can often see here in America, I thought that some other Hogs might like to have a look.

I like Eilean Donan Castle most.

The setting, Karin, is certainly one of the best I saw. Just sorry that I could not have explored it from the other side, too.

Actually, Kathy, "Doing Scotland" so soon after a cruise up the Rhine, I kinda feel like I'm "castled-out" just now. There was an 8 y/o girl on the bus who I heard say, "Not ANOTHER castle?" I didn't go that far but it was nice to get home for a while.

I certainly know how you felt. I felt the same way about a month ago when I went to Wales and there were hills full of sheep and long empty roads. As you drive on these long empty roads with lots of bends, around the corner were more hills and sheep. I fell asleep and my partner asked if I was bored (no offense to the Welsh people as they are lovely people). My reply was "the scenery doesn't change as there are hills and sheep and more hills and sheep", so I do understand what you mean.

Thanks for sharing your photos. We expect to be over there next summer and will look forward to seeing as much as we can. Will be traveling around England, Scotland and Ireland by ship for about 3 weeks.

Don't forget the SW. There is a lot here to see too, but I do understand that there is only so much you can see in 3 weeks. Do have a good time.

On the BBC news while I was there was a story about the growing demand for AC in Scotland. As I checked into each hotel after Edinburgh, I asked for a fan and a flat sheet.

You will probably be glad of a Douvet this week.

A few years back I went on a golf excursion to play many of the British Open venues. We spent a travel day at Stirling Castle. Iā€™m a big fan of Scotland.šŸ‘

When our bus first pulled into the parking area for the castle, I nearly jumped out of my seat. I thought that the sun was spot-lighting the Great Hall building. The color is so striking that I must have taken more than a dozen images featuring it from many angles.
