Sunset in the Sunflower Field

There is a field of sunflowers blooming near our farm. I have been out there many times taking pictures during the day and also hoping for some sunset shots. On my third evening out there, I got lucky and everything fell into place

But why are the sunflowers pointing away from the sun? Are they getting ready for tomorrow at sunrise?

from what I can tell by being out there every day is that they follow the sun until the head opens up and blooms--they all just face east

Some say, better to be lucky than good.
In your case, I don't think luck has anything to do with it. You knew you were at the right place. You knew the right time would come but not sure when. But, you were patient and persevered and in the end, rewarded with a fantastic shot because you're good, as well.
