I had a severe GAS attack when vising EBAY today. I found a good deal on a Nikon AF-S DX 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED VR II Lens so I bought it. A while later I found an even greater deal on a Nikon AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED so I bought it, too. These 2 lenses are sort of similar, so I'm wondering if I should give 1 of them away..........
Q1- Should I give 1 of the 2 lenses away?
Q2- If so, which should I KEEP: (a) the 18-200mm or (b) the 55-200mm.

By the way, is there a pill that will cure my GAS?

Keep the 18-200. It is a very versatile all-around lens. I have two of them just in case I want to try some "stereo" photos.

Keep the 18-200. Lose the other one
I would keep 55-200mm as it is a rather lens optically. I have little use for super wider zooms as they do nothing well.
If you want to view things through the lens of the law of averages, or probability or whatever, keep the 55-200. On average, the zoom with the shorter range will be better optically.
But if you're not into pixel peeping, then try them both for a month or so. You may find that the added versatility of the 18-200 outweighs any technical limitations, or you may find on receipt one of the two is not entirely what it was represented to be re condition. But I have publicly stated many times, "Sharpness is highly overrated," so what do I know.
@Scruples -- I greatly appreciated your suggested cure for GAS. I could easily discern that it was clearly offered with tongue in cheek. VERY clearly!
@All -- good counsel! I saw great consistency as to folks commending the value of the 18-200 as a walking-around lens (that's exactly what I want). I love this forum!
I'm going to give both lens a good trial, as suggested. I will be especially interested in comparing which of these 2 lenses is better when shooting at 150mm & beyond. Like Bill P, I'm guessing it will be the 55-200.
No pill for gas! Keep the 18-200mm lens, I have one and it is a great lens.

I hate to be so dumb, but what is a GAS attack? I've never heard that expression before.

On UHH it is an acronym for "Gear Acquisition Syndrome" , or how to make your wallet lighter, and bank accounts smaller.
It is never dumb to ask for an explanation in circumstances like this.
There are some acronyms that it is not good to ask for explanations of. I used one earlier today to make a point intentionally, and it caused a certain amount of negative reaction, or even caused offense to some very fine people.

Drink Hot water,is the best to my knowledge
For gas: drinking hot water is best, no side effects (drinkable hot)

We're talking real flatus here, I suppose. In which case, drinkably hot chamomile tea is good, too.
I am reminded of a Marx Brother's movie I once saw,,,, probably only a year or two after WW I. Groucho and Chico are dressed as army officers. A man dressed as a courier dashes onscreen and announces to them General blah-blah) is suffering a GAS attack. What should he do. Groucho responds tell him to take two teaspoons of Bicarb and a glass of water.

We'll be interested in your conclusions {we always like to hear the end of a story}
