"The show's narrator flies Blue Angel 7, a two-seat F/A-18D Hornet, to show sites. The Blues use this jet for backup, and to give demonstration rides to VIP civilians. Three backseats at each show are available; one of them goes to members of the press, the other two to "Key Influencers".[12] The No. 4 slot pilot often flies the No. 7 aircraft in Friday's "practice" shows. They also use this aircraft for "advanced visits" to a site. Kansas City, MO. was listed as a show site for July 6-7, 2019.

Might be an a/c they use for coordination meetings with upcoming shows and yes, they fly the F-18 rejects of the fleet. The fleet should and needs to get the best and top of the line a/c...2021, Blues to get all new super hornets from Boeing, contract signed.

The aircraft pictured is a Czech Aero L-39 Albatross. NOT operated by the USN. The civilian registration number N139PJ can be seen under the tail.

Didn't see any Buno numbers on the side of that a/c, all Navy a/c have Buno's painted on the side, including the Blues.

This L-39 was painted to honor the Blue Angels A-4 Skyhawk and you're correct, its not associated in any way with the Blue Angels...

Nope - - we never had to land on a floating football field in the middle of the flippin' ocean. The F4 Pilots I flew with were pretty damm good. But the best of the best either went to Test Pilot school, or to the T-Birds. I'm sure it's the same for those selected for the Blue A's.
The guys that REALLY amazed were the Vietnam era CW-4 Huey pilots. I flew with several ages ago out of Martindale. I stood on the skids with a gunners belt on during some of their low altitude antics over Camp Bullis. Just AMAZING !!

And it's impossible for those that never did to ever understand. I have a good friend who was an A6 BN back in the day - - call sign = Intruder. Imagine that :) :) - - now living in CO. I never did regain any appreciation for snow !! I flew several missions (as observer) in AC-130's over Albania in 1997 - - DANG !! you just do NOT want one of those things MAD at you !! (even from 10,000' - you can run, but you'll only die tired). Also got to flight check the 50-cal tail stinger in the CH-35 Sea Stallion at the 1/2 way point over the black sea.

Yes...when I saw it I felt like it might be a trainer-type and it looked official but your explanation makes perfect sense. Thanks
