Great shot, definitely worthwhile in missing your turnoff. Mahalo for sharing.

While driving from SF to Sacramento, I missed my exit and had get off at the next one and drive on some small deserted roads to get back to the highway. There were sunflowers as far as the eye could see in every direction.

But if this was sundown, they would all be facing away from him - towards the sun. It must be sunrise - they are still facing towards the previous sunset - or else the "sunset" is photoshopped in. Or else these are confused sunflowers....

Not sure about that, Steve. When folks around here tried to grow sunflowers as a cash crop (didn’t work in Indiana--no real markets), they all seemed to droop toward the morning sun as they bloomed, and tended to stay that way. Maybe that’s not the case in other parts of the country.

Any sunflower farmers out there?

I like this, and clearly it was worth missing that exit. Twelve and a half years ago I missed my exit too--and found a puppy!

Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) are one of several plant species that make optimum use of light by turning to face the sun. Heliotropism is essentially solar tracking. ... Heirloom varieties of sunflower may exhibit more pronounced sun-tracking characteristics than newer, hybrid versions of these annual flowers.

btw... The Soviet Union is the world's leading producer of sunflowers. The sunflower is the national flower of Russia.

Thank you for sharing MWojton

A puppy, that would be a really good exit miss.
