My project for this coming winter is to scan my slides and store them on a thumb drive or external storage device. I also have thousands of color prints I should scan and store electronically as well. So I would like some recommendation for reasonably priced scanners that accurately reproduce the color and work with Mac. By reasonably priced, I mean no more than around $200.00. Thanks in advance.
Have a Canoscan 9000F MkII - very satisfied with it. Have scanned quite a lot of slides with good results. If you go online and find an extra slide holder it really speeds up the work flow as you can load one while scanning the other. From Canon, just at your price point. A side benefit is regular scanning and scanning to create PDFs.
Greg, if you can find an Epson scanner in your price range, you'd be quite happy with it. There are quite a few on ebay. The other thing I'd suggest is Silverfast software to drive the scanner. This software is scanner specific. So, you'll need to decide on the scanner prior to obtaining the software.
And yes, I'm currently using an Epson Perfection 3200. I've had it since 2001 or so. It's scanned thousands of slides, negatives, and prints. It just keeps working.

Thank you for the tip. I’ll check that one out.

Thanks, Bob. I was looking through Amazon, but there are so many there, it’s confusing. Even Epson has a large number of scanners. I need one that scans both slides as well as prints.

Canoscan 9000 scanners on Amazon range from $650 to $850.00!! Pretty much out of my range, unfortunately.
I've been using an Epson V850 for a couple of years now, and I'm very happy with it. However, the current price @ B&H is right at $1K. Does everything I need, pictures, documents, transparencies, negatives.
I scan film from 35mm, all the way up to 4x5. It's obviously doesn't scan as well as the better drum scanners, but then, it doesn't cost $30K+
There are strange prices here and there online - if it is a reputable company...Good Luck with your quest!

For $200 or less, hard to beat the Epson V600.

Right in the price budget. Thank you.
I have the Epson V600 also and it works well for prints. I have not done any negatives.

Perhaps someone here has experience with negatives and/or slides.
