Gave it a little more breathing room at the top and worked on bringing out the colors and details of the hoodoos.

Thanks. That's what it needs!

I enjoyed working on this one so much I decided to do a second entry. This one also playing off the name of Cathedral Gorge but a different direction. I did mostly straight processing to bring out the various shapes and all the nooks and crannies. Next I used a paint brush in a low opacity to bring out the figures I saw in the rocks. I did not do any composites, just painted the actual shapes of the rocks. I hope I did enough for you to see what I saw in my mind. I didn't want to over do it and I really don't have any talent in painting.

Keni, you are beyond belief! What a great well executed idea. I thought you had just added colored cutouts until I went to down load.

I never read the descriptions until after I have viewed the pictures.

Keni, your take suggests a Nativity scene to me. Very creative!

I'm interested in what you consider reality. I see no objective reality, as the camera records differently from our eyes, and our eyes see as our mind controls. The differences are often small, but that is where fine photography resides. Is this similar to your thinking, or do you have a different take?

I very much like your take on "reality," Bob. Once I take a photograph, it becomes its own entity. I then feel free to work on it until it becomes my own "finished product." I am not a photojournalist. My photograph is just the beginning of my creative process. Thanks for so succinctly stating what I have always believed.

I have really enjoyed working with this image. Before I got carried away with the clone tool in the earlier image I put up, this is one of my b/w versions.

I think I'm really starting to like this in B&W. Nicely done. May I ask how you did it?

This underwent many changes after the initial conversion in PS6. I knew I wanted the sky dark, so there were some edits before the conversion, including getting the sky darker. When I converted, I made the blue sliders darker. I Dropped it into Topaz somewhere early on, and added structure. There was a lot of burning and dodging as well, in particular at the base of the rocks, but also to make the rock forms more pronounced. When I first saw the picture, I knew I wanted to add sky, and later I decided to add a little to the bottom. I used a variety of sharpening in unsharpened mask. Various contrast adjustments. Hope this is somewhat informative!

It is. I wanted darker sky here also, but the angle didn't give me that naturally. I like the "dodge-burn" idea for emphasizing the forms. Never thought about adding to the bottom. But maybe that's what gives your image more balance.

Once again late to the party. I had a tough time deciding what I wanted to do with this one. So I went in two different directions.

One for "normal" and one very playful. Fun!

This is a jpeg made from an undeveloped raw image. (I took the raw image and simply exported it as a jpeg with no changes.) I'm looking forward to seeing how y'all handle this image. I liked the thought of the image, but it had so many problems!

The above is supposed to be a link to the RAW file uploaded to Dropbox. Don't know if this will work or not. If not, maybe someone can tell me how to do that!

Interesting image to edit. I was interested in the vertical line patterns in the hoodoo's. I also tried to used the noon sun to help emphasize the sense of depth in the structures.
