I started out with the intention to use sharpening, clarity and the new texture slider to bring out the detail in the rock formations and get some separation and contrast. I used large size brushes in conjunction with automask and range mask with luminosity to hit the dark elements and then a second one to hit the lighter tones. (a Quick way to dodge and burn). I refined the colors to get some separation using HSL and here are the results all done in lightroom without any presets...

Nothing special with this. Just attempted to bring out hidden stuff.

In my first pass, I focused on imagination. On this, I tried to focus on nature, bringing essentials out, toning down the Kodachrome sky and overwhelming brights, doing some sharpening, just for emphasis of the hoodoos.

Here is my effort. The framing of the shot, in camera, didn't include very much sky, and that fact seemed to direct my attention to the individuals. I figured I'd just go with that, and try to accentuate the individual hoodoos. Make it seem more like a family portrait than a landscape shot.

I could not download RAW image, it converted to jpg, however, a touch of CSR, a couple of tweaks in Topaz Studio 2 (the firsts time I have tried to use in, not bad) added a background layer.

Lots of nice clarity here.

It was very bright. That was part of the problem. I actually thought the sky here looked pretty drab compared to reality.

The family portrait thought was what came to mind when shooting this image. Thanks for catching that.

I made a mistake and didn't convert my image to sRGB from AdobeRGB. I hope you viewed it in down load.
The thumb nail needs medical attention.

That adds an entirely new element. Interesting.
