What is a good reasonably priced walk around zoom lens for a D750? I do mostly street photography with some landscape.

I love my 24-120mm lens. I’m going to the Living Desert (local zoo in natural habitat) tomorrow, and we’re always told to bring at least a 200mm. I find the 24-120mm has plenty of reach. It’s so sharp that cropping is fine, and makes up for the shorter reach.

There is a little known, completely underrated lens from the old days that does an oustanding job on a full frame camera - the Nikkor 28-105 F3..5 - F4.5 AF-D lens. I find it sharper than the 24-120 F4, tiny, and it even has a 1:2 closeup range. The best part is you can usually find a nice one for around $125 - $150 used. It looks "old school" but don't let that fool you.

However, if it started "walking around" on me I'd beat it with a baseball bat to put an end to that. . .

Depending on how wide you want to go for landscapes, you might check out the new Tamron 35-150 f/2.8-4. It's a very nice lens. Beautifully sharp. I wouldn't shoot sports with it, but it's good for street photography and if you don't need really wide angle for landscapes, it'll do fine. I bring this and a 20mm f/1.8 with me on trips and I feel like I have everything covered unless a bike race or soccer game breaks out. That said, the 24-120 is also a really nice lens for everyday use.

You generally want longer, not shorter for landscape, unless you are going for a special effect with perspective. The 35-150 is a nice lens, and if you need wider field of view for a landscape, it is easy enough to shoot it as a stitched panorama - even hand held.

I guess that depends on who you are. I use my Sigma 10-20mm for landscapes because UWA gives intimate feeling - the "you are also there" thing.

Please note Gene's "special effect perspective" from above quote .....

I prefer the Nikon 28 to 300 on my D850 for walking around.

Yes, make "f2/8" the first priority whichever "mm" you choose.

I like the 24-120 but having said that the 20mm, 35mm, or 50mm are light and sharp and all you do is zoom with your feet.

What do you consider to be good and reasonable? My "utility" lens on both Canon and Nikon bodies is a 28-300 zoom that costs around $800 for the Nikkor and around $2400 for the Canon. Tamron may have something less expensive but if it's not a Tamron SP series lens, I wouldn't buy one. As for Sigma, a Sport or Art series lens is the way to go.

But the OP is using a full-frame camera, so this isn’t relevant.
