I'd like some feedback from anyone who has experience with these lenses. I use a D750. I had a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and returned it for the Nikon equivalent and was very pleased with that outcome. I've heard and read good things about both of these 24-70s and now I'm looking for more opinions.

The Nikon doesn't have VR and the Tamron does.

You might want to include the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 ART lens in your consideration list, I found it sharpest of the three with the least corner distortion.

And all 3 HAVE stabilization (VR, VC, OS)

Some do some don't. The one I'm purchasing doesn't.

Have the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 and am getting excellent results with it and it gets very good reviews. I don't have any experience with that particular Nikon, but own several Nikkor lenses and a couple of Sigma lenses. My recommendation is IF you are willing to check AF then tune a 3rd party lens if needed, then you can save yourself some money without really sacrificing anything in terms of quality. IF you are not, then buy the Nikon glass. Both Tamron and Sigma sell the Tap-In and USB Dock for a good reason, Nikon does not need to.

DxOMark rates the Sigma lens the sharpest with 23 perceptual mp based on the 36mp D810, Tamron at 22, Nikon non VR at 21 and the Nikon VR at 19. A difference of 1 or less is not noticeable. Vignetting, CA, and distortion are easily corrected in PP, so I usually make my decisions based on sharpness (perceptual mp) and transmission (t-stops). For transmission, Tamron and Nikon are very similar and both a bit better than the Sigma, which is behind by about .2 stops. You can't go wrong with any of these lenses.

Google microcontrast, from what I've read all Sigma Art lenses lack in it in favor of sharpness

I am using all Nikkor glass with my D810, and except for one brief encounter (many years ago with a Sigma lens) I have used only Nikkor since 2000. While it’s true that most of my 11 lenses are without VR, all are f/2.8 or faster which means that I shoot at mostly high shutter speeds. VR is useful at low speeds and recommended for consumer-grade lenses with variable apertures such as f/3.5-5.6. In my opinion, VR adds to the complexity of a lens and a greater opportunity for failure. In fact, quite a few of my lenses are AF not AF-s and are made to be durable.

The Nikon 24-70 is the GOLD standard of wedding photographers world wide. There is no sharper zoom lens available except for the Nikon 14-24mm.
If I were you the VR II version of this lens is also great.
But, right now, there is a $500.00 discount on Nikon's latest incarnation of this lens.

I have a Tamron 24-70 2.8. Extremely sharp. When I went to get the lens I was going to get a Canon. The guy at the camera store told me if I wanted to save some money get the Tamron. As good as the Canon but a lot less expensive. He was right.

I purchased a used Nikon 24-70 with VR from B&H and saved a lot of money, plus it needed no fine tuning on my D750. I love it. (Is there any such thing as too sharp?-- it's sharp1)

I used to only buy Nikkor lenses, but the latest Tamron G2 and Sigma Art lenses have changed my mind. I bought the Tamron 24-70mm G2 earlier this year and have been very impressed by it, especially around f6.3-f10 or so, not that surprising since all lenses have a sweet spot. I tuned it with the dock and it's very sharp.

Attached is a pic I posted on UUH a couple of months ago. It was shot with a D850, 1/250 and f10.

I recently went thru a similar decision. I have the Nikon 24-70G that does not have VR, and after getting the D850 I noticed that I was getting motion blur since I am now more shaky as I get older. I finally settled on the latest version of the Nikon 24-120G VR f4. I lost 1 stop of light and gained 50mm of focal length, and now have tack sharp hand held pictures. Just another option to consider, but as a + it is much less expensive and as a minus it is not as well weather sealed. Good luck.
