It was just the camera and bag – a Minolta A1, which was $1,200 new. I didn't think of going to the flooring company until someone mentioned it on UHH. I figured they would say it was my word against his. Maybe not. I'll have to check. I will probably have to go around the insurance agent, since he says no to it. Same with the police – they didn't want to be bothered with a report.

So this is all about a camera that can be replaced with a used/new outrageously better camera and fixed lens for a song. The bag..what can I say? While I understand the post about the theft; I don’t understand your solicitation for ‘help’. Be pissed off about the theft. Go file a report. Go to the flooring company. Forget the insurance. Go find a replacement and come back and tell us how you love your ‘new’ purchase.

If I was a business owner I would want to know if my employee was a thief and appreciate the heads up from you. If they steal from a customer they will steal from the boss too.

Very possibly they both were in on the theft.

Yes and that lets them know you have at least one firearm to steal at a later date. As a LEO I can't think of anything worse than that.

Even worse you let's say you allow someone into your home to do some work. A few minutes later you find them leaving the house with your property. You tell them to stop or you will shoot. Most criminals will tell you to stick your 45 up your butt as they know you can't legally shoot them. You allowed them into your home and they are not presenting a threat as they are leaving. Now what???

Now what???

Shoot the scum bag right in the middle of his guts is "what"!
It may have negative side effects, but I'm prepared
to take those on the chin Sir.

Having said that, it'd have to be a lot more than a Minolta Dimage A1 (which can be had for about $20
off Ebay) at stake before I'd be pulling a gun on someone.

Let me clarify some misconceptions:
• I did not post on UHH to be "whining". I was just rather stunned that after all these years with no problems, this would happen.
• I DID contact the insurance agent, and he told me not to file, because I would only get 1/2 of the original price, and it would raise my rates. I was not guessing.
• I did talk to the police, and got no encouragement at all.
• Yes, I was stupid for not recording the serial numbers. I've never done that on any of my equipment, though I should have. We didn't used to have to worry about such things.
• I had my camera bag hidden out of site, so he had to do some serious looking to find it.
• I don't think the other guy was in on it, because he didn't express any interest in photography at all.
• I'm not really concerned about getting that camera back because it's relatively old for a digital camera, and it's time for me to move up to something far better.
• One was working in each bathroom, so I could not watch both of them at the same time.
• I am not looking for charity or sympathy!
Let me clarify some misconceptions: br • I did not... (show quote)

The serial numbers will be on the exif information of the photos you shot with the camera
that was stolen. You should know that, having been a professional photographer.

I really hate to be seen as treating the victim like the criminal, but I smell fish.

Do you mind me asking of the make and model of the stolen camera?

I'm sorry domcomm, I just read back through the thread and discovered
that the camera is an old Dimage A1 bridge camera. I would not be surprised
if a camera that old did not include its serial number in the metadata of its photos.

The suggestions about looking for it in pawn shops is kinda funny, the thief would
be fortunate to get $3.00 for it from a pawn broker lol.

I'd be moving up the chain of command with the police until my theft report was taken and put on record. Then, with that report on file, I'd be contacting my insurance regardless of what my agent told me. Then I might be looking for a new agent and new company that pays full replacement cost and doesn't raise rates for a single claim. Good luck.

While I agree about the agent; there is no value to making a claim based on the camera stolen. Replacement cost for the exact camera is not germane. Long time discontinued. Now, replacement with something of equal specifications is also not germane. The original specs are long antiquated. So, if you look for a 'bridge' camera with specs that basically and minimally exceed the A1; I am sure one can be found for under $300. I'm not sure how much..maybe others do. Now what is the deductible? After that, he may not even get any $$.
