Alligator photos are so boring! I decided to try something creative. Thus as Friday's Tropical Depression or heavy rains hit south Florida I ventured out to the Everglades to get a creative Gator photo.

This is the result. In the torrential downpour I photographed this gator lurking in the rain and searching for his next meal. So what do you feel about this photo? Did I achieve my goal?

Excellent capture Larry.

Great capture, Larry, and as has been said, it looks foreboding.

They are remarkable hunters and are hard to see in the water until it's too late. This image illustrates their ability to ambush their prey........and the rain drops are like diamonds on a glass top surface.....good job !

Interesting photo because of the pattern the rain is making in the water! You accomplished your goal. How do you protect your gear from the rain Larry?

I believe you achieved your goal in more than one way. First, there is the portrait itself. Second, is the photo of the water, whose ripples resemble the skin of the alligator. Third--there is ALwAYS a third, no? Can't remember it at the moment.

Thank you. This one was hard. Trying to capture the mood took some thought. I'm glad it worked.

Thank you. I appreciate the comment. For me this was one of those shots that required processing to enhance the mood of the image. I had to make the eye compelling.

Thank you Blair. Watching him he really seemed to know the rain was his partner. It was a neat experience.

Thanks for commenting. As to your question, I have a Storm Shield raincoat for my camera. In fact, I have one for each of my camera set up (different lenses) So the gear stay dry, even in serious downpours. I also use them for spray from waterfalls when I work close to the spray (as I often do) and for shooting at the beach. My cameras are tools and I make them work for their keep. Together we are a team.

I also have my own raincoat. But when the raindrops fall, the camera gets dressed up first. :-)

Love the humor! Thanks. I really appreciate the thoughtful comment. You seem to have my memory problem as well---I just can't remember. :-)
