Well, most New Jerseyans know how to spell “existence” !! No, I’m not the spell police, but I do live between NYC and Philadelphia.

I have lived in Central NJ most of my 55 yrs. NJ is a state of convenience. Beaches, mountains, NYC & Philly are give/take an hr away. There are things that are totally unique to NJ and are outstanding otherwise. Yes, it's expensive. But who said convenience ever was?

I didn't decide to stay because of taxes! You may enjoy my NJ page of trivia: www.rvharvey.com/nj-trivia.htm/

Partially true. The “Garden State” was an agricultural powerhouse feeding Philadelphia and NY, farms on the most fertile land in the world. But it’s industrial North began to grow with the industrial revolution. Newark for example became one of the largest manufacturing cities in the world with a major seaport and the first commercial airport in the world. NJ was longer defined by its two large neighbors. NJ became an industrial powerhouse as well.
There was a saying, “Wherever America is going, Newark will get there first”.
It’s so true. A snapshot of Newark decades ago is America, urban America today for the most part. We are in a decline, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Will we follow Western Europe into cultural and national suicide ? If you look at California and NJ, the answer is sadly yes at the moment.

To markngolf and rvharvey and everyone from New Jersey. I don't have any problems with Joisey. The photograph was taken when I was the back seat getting bored and starting to nod off. I saw so many gorgeous houses when I wanted to buy a home. However, the taxes were high that my father and mother wanted my wife and I to stay in Brooklyn with them. There are some favorite stores in New Jersey that I enjoy.

I’ve lived in NY and NJ most of my life and can state without reservation that the folks who say “Joisey” are from Brooklyn😊

I guess it's good to warn drivers, but I've always wondered about "Falling Rock Zone" signs. They know that rocks can fall and kill someone, so they take action. They put up a sign. Another sign I think is odd is one I've seen on Cape Cod. It's something like "Special Enforcement Zone." In other words, if you break a law here, you're more likely to get caught.

In California a "Special Enforcement Zone" is usually a construction area. Fines are usually doubled to discourage increasing the traffic problems caused by the construction.

I think that’s what it means on the Cape, too.

We loved it for it's history, and its schools among other things already mentioned, but we left due to the property taxes and medical issues of a daughter. Always felt guilty about leaving our families, but it proved to be the better choice vs. staying.

As an additional comment to the "Falling Rock" signs. Why do they always put the "Deer Crossing" signs in such dark, isolated places? Why don't they move them to well lighted areas? Maybe even put them in town where they have actual crosswalks?? ;)

A woman called in to a radio station in NJ last year suggesting exactly the same thing...put the signs in safer places. The DJ kept her on for about 15 minutes😊

I drove through Noo Joisey last year on my cross-country trip. What would be a 90 minute drive in the PNW took 4 hours from Philly to Long Island. Got a lot of photos while sitting in traffic.

You did not drive "through Noo Joisey". You were probably on I 95 and then LIE. You never really saw "Noo Joisey". The drive you took was like a drive in LA. Would that be seeing California?
