I'd be afraid to step onto my patio if these flying jewels were bigger. When they zoom by chasing each other, I can feel their wings, and on a number of occasions I've seen one stand on top of the other while giving the one on the ground a beating with that long, sharp bill. Mean but very endearing little imps, and I love sharing our yard with them. Tamron 150-600. Thanks for trying the DLs!

Really great. I've seen that rolling around on the ground battle too. Little guys/gals with the heart of a lion!

Thank you so much, CPO. They certainly do put a lot of energy into defending a feeder. Seems it would be better if they just shared, but I'm not a hummer.

Two very nice images, Donna. They are aggressive little imps.

Yeah, I've always thought that too. But, as you say, I'm not a hummer. I've always hoped to get some photos of the WWF hummers. Some day!

These are exceptional shots, Donna. Where ever there are two hummingbirds, there is war!

Excellent shots, Donna. We don't have these delightful little birds down under.

Thank you so much, Carol, and you are so right about the hummer wars. They defend their feeders sometimes violently.

No, you don't, but you do have their 'cousins', the lovely honey eaters. Thanks so much, Earl.

My favorite subjects. Endearing, but not too smart. If they spent less time fighting they would all get more food. Of course when they migrate, I've counted twenty or more on one feeder. Necessity is a great peacemaker.

LOL You're so right, Janos, and you're very lucky to have so many at one feeder. I've never seen more than 2 at a time on ours. They'll feed for a while, realize they're not dining alone and attack.
