I like some of the functions in Luminar but even with version 4 looming they still do not have a means to open and edit Canon .cr3 RAW files. According to the email I received from them today they aren't promising anything as a solution in 4 other than the Adobe to .dng conversion and we're working on it.

I've been waiting to see where Luminar will take me in my quest to replace LR. Evidently I'm going to have to go in another direction, likely Capture One.

You could use free Canon Digital Photo Professional to do RAW conversion without applying any adjustments other than Digital Lens Optimizer and then use the DPP batch process to export a TIFF to Luminar.

Bogin Bob, we've used several versions of Luminar, ON1 , Adobe and open source/freeware editors. Luminar seems to have struggled this year to update; it varies in the experience. It works well for some but not well for others, depending on the installation method and if the customer has an offline/vs online installation. From many reports on this and other forums, it depends who you connect with. The support ranges from good to unfortunately miserable; we've experienced highs and low from Luminar support. Mostly good. If you file regular support tickets, you readily know who the support folks are and if they care. Not good nor bad, just the way it is with all companies. We hang in with Luminar and hope they'll succeed, AI isn't what it's cracked up to be thought it's the the end all-all/do-all buzzword this year. If you have a quality system with at least 32 GB of ram, AI doesn't mean as much if you're offline; the computer is able to pull through without any online assistance. As for paying in advance for a lower price for whenever the future version of Luminar is up and running (well), shuffle the cards, roll the dice; money spent now may or may not always be a winner. Good luck, happy shooting. sv

sv3noKin51E ... I agree generally. I was tongue in cheek noting Skylum's marketing/income approach. I have had Luminar since inception and like it much. I have not experienced any issues with its performance, their support or pricing. My workflow includes Lightroom (85%) ... Library, Develop, Adobe products - My Portfolio, Spark, Mobile; Luminar (10%) ... Object Removal, Looks and AI (for Lr rated 4 and above photos), B&W Conversion; and lastly Nik (5%) ... Efex HDR, Color Efex - Polarize. I do use PS minimally for Content-aware removal and photo borders. Maybe members would be interested what Luminar features are most used (when used as a plug-in). Regards, Bob

I tried L3 and was frustrated because it seemed slow, so I never bought it after the free trial was over. Have they fixed this problem? Kind of liked the program, and even though I use Lightroom, I kind of resent the ongoing monthly rental fee and would like to switch/augment it.

It is slow. I’m installing a SSD Drive and 16GB of memory in my laptop this weekend, which should solve the problem. If I could install 32 GB of memory in my laptop I would, but unfortunately it maxes out at 16 GB. Currently I only have 8GB of memory, which isn’t enough.
