Go to photodex.com and check out their Pro Show program. Lots of samples and tutorials and free trial offer. I don’t burn to DVD's. It’s easier to just put the show on a USB drive and plug it into your TV.

Thanks, I was thinking that if I couldn't find something I liked I would go the USB route as well.
(It seems to be the MiDVD that is the culprit) I exported the slide show directly out of Photos onto a USB and used it on my TV and it looked much better than the CD version.

But with all the awesome replies I should be able to find something that works a lot better than what I have.

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions, I appreciate it.
I think there's 3 or 4 that should work, especially the ones that say they burn at 4k or HD.

In photos on imac go to file create there you will see book, calendar, card, slideshow and prints. I’ve always used slideshow then I exported it out as a movie file. Then I would use iDVD or Toast make make a dvd with the slideshow I created in photos.
Photos has a lot of different effects for your slideshow and you and add music to it. I think it works really well,

Yes IDVD was excellent and free but its no longer supported and will not run on my new(ish) mac.
I do agree Photos is pretty good. My only complaint is I wish you could organize them a little better. JMO but I think the current way is a little cumbersome.

One more suggestion. I haven’t used iDVD in a long time but I still use photos on the iMac to make slideshow. I have a Apple TV that I use to play my slideshows on my TV without having to use a DVD player. Also when you make dvd it will drop the quality of you photos to 480 if you make a slideshow in photos you can save it out in HD and if you have a Apple TV then you can take advantage of your HD slideshow on your HD TV.

If you do with dvd it only got to be 480. Another way of doing this is to take your slideshow from photos and put it on a USB key. Some TV have a USB port that will play video files. Just make sure your tv can do that. Also make sure what file format the Tv can play.

After experimenting last night I found the same thing with exporting to USB and comparing it to the DVD.
I did not know that the DVD will drop it to 480...that explains a lot.
Thanks for the info.

Hi, I'm looking to find a really good Slideshow maker and DVD burner for my trip photos.
I've used Iphoto and IDVD in the past and liked them but alas IDVD is kaput.
Right now I'm creating the slide show in Photos and then burning it using MiDVD (from the ap store).
But I am not happy at all with the way the playback from the DVD looks on an HD TV.
Is there something out there that burns the DVD at better playback for TV?
All suggestions welcome.
Thanks
Brian.

You would be better off creating a 1080P or 4K video of it. Then you can:

Put it on your YouTube channel

Put it on a USB flash drive and plug that into a smart TV

Get a BluRay burner and make a disc

Put it on a home network router that shares files, so you can play it over WiFi to all your networked devices (smart TV, tablet, smartphone, computer...)

Apple Final Cut Pro X can still make DVDs. Roxio Toast is an app that can do it, too.

I have used ProShow Producer and am quite satisfied with it.

Whoops - sorry. I now realize you have a Mac. The software I recommended only runs on Windows.

Agree with Markngolf. But, I have PC and not Mac.

FYI, just in case you run a PC and you go by ProShow Gold or Producer and you want to keep the HD quality, don't burn your slideshow in DVD format. You'll lose the quality of the HD. Burn it in Blu-ray disc. The quality is awesome. A bit expensive but well worth it. For ordinary show, I usually burn in thumb drive but if the show is high quality and a keeper, I burn it using Blu ray disc. IMHO, in descending order, Blu ray burn quality is the best, then thumb drive, then regular DVD.

It's nice, but does not run easily on a Mac. The original poster has a Mac, as evidenced by mention of iDVD, Photos, and the App Store.

I have heard of people running ProShow in Apple BootCamp installations of Windows 10 on a Mac. Running on Windows 10 in a Parallels Desktop virtual environment on the Mac may be possible now, but was not possible several years back.
